We are no strangers to tragedy in our city. We lost a fantastic Chief years ago in a hostage trade. I have an unusually good

relationship with our police department and I would hate to see anything happen to any one of them. One of my grandkids got

accidentally locked in a hot car when we were building this house. A squad pulled into our yard just about the time that we were

hanging up the phone. They don't call for my help very often, but when they do, I try to give them the same kind of fast service that

they gave me. Kasey is right. When these crimes happen in your town, to your bank, and your officers, you take it way more personally.

I'm not sure how it all went down, but after a bank robber kills someone he is gonna probably fight it out. What does he have to loose? Was that trooper trying to go one on one with that bank robber?

where did this happen?

Re: State Trooper Shot in Wis. - 03/25/15 11:22 PM

The trooper was 21 years old, a resident of Kiel, and it was his first day of solo duty. The bank robbery was in Wausaukee but the

trooper was following the suspect from a description of the car and driver in Fond du Lac. From what I read on line, both the suspect

and the trooper killed each other in the exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was identified as Steven Timothy Snyder who was a master cement mason with his own business in Detroit. The only other

record they could find is that when he was young, (1996) he was a skinhead and got into a racial fight also in Fond du Lac. ( So I

guess we won't be seeing any picketers this time )

Well, A gung ho kid and a challenge. Hind sight being what it is, back up couldn't have been far away. Sometimes it's better to catch em another time.Too bad he got killed, but I hope this helps in training other cops.No second place in a gun fight.

Actually, it was a tie.

catch him another time Mike? The guy already killed someone. That cop took an oath to protect us against guys like that, it was his duty to go after him. yes it sucks but that's always a possibility.

I guess it was a tie. I hope he knew he killed the bad guy before he faded.

Re: State Trooper Shot in Wis. - 03/26/15 12:58 AM

Yup. Not his duty to get killed. Plenty of other cops to help out. I'm sure his family would agree. If the rabbit gets away, you will get him another day. That badge don't make anyone bullet proof, and yes, the guy had already killed someone, so it's pretty smart to think that he wasn't coming out peacefully.

Hello feller trappers. I would like to say thanks for all the praise concerning Law Enforcement. I am new to this site. I will start trapping this coming winter again, last time i trapped i was 12 years of age. I have served for 32 years as Police Officer in the State of Ohio. It is my dream to retire 12/31/2016 and go full time trapping. Like the mountain dew commercial, seen it, been there, done it. To say what is in the mind of a Police Officer at that deadly moment in his life, , well its hard to say or explain. You really don't know what to do, just know you have to do something, and pray it comes out good for you. Right, we are sworn to protect, serve, and uphold the law of the land. Honestly once a bad guy is taken out, another pops up. We all are going to die one day. The Lord says it's appointed a man wants to die. Well i cant think of a better way to die, then to be in a uniform and protecting this great country USA. All we can do is Pray for his family and try and get this USA back on track. Oh and of coarse Pray for our great Military. I appreciate this site and even more so now after reading those who responded to this article. I haven't heard about this shooting and i thank the one who put it on here. I Thank those of you who are willing to step in and help us, we are out numbered 10000 to 1 most any jurisdiction. Thanks again and have a Blessed Day.

Ridge Reaper, a very good friend of mine was a lieutenant on our police force. I truly believe that there was probably very few

that could beat his combined score in pistol, rifle, trap, and skeet. I did beat him once in pool ( by sinking the eight-ball on

the break )

Mike, we don't know enough about this to critique a man who died for us. He probably was waiting for backup before stopping him but something went down that caused him to go it alone. At that point if he had run off or waited till later everyone would have thought he should be fired. It wasn't a tie we lost a lot more than that piece of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) had to offer in trade.
Whatever happened I'm leaving it to their investigation to try to make sure the U.S. wins the next one.

Re: State Trooper Shot in Wis. - 03/30/15 05:57 PM

Accidents happen Trapperpaw. I understand that. I've worked in prisons before. Not quite the same as street law enforcement. Some of the same rules apply. And some guys just try their best to cowboy the situation and it works out for them. Other times it doesn't end well, and they have themselves to blame. Im not saying the kid did or didnt. Sometimes its just time to punch out and it couldn't have happened any other way. I still hope the cop knew he got the bad guy before the lights went out.
I have family that are cops and the last thing I would want is to be in the grave yard listening to the guns going off in their name. We talk all the time about how tunnel vision will get ya killed.

Flick, your exactly right, tunnel vision plans a great roll in many cases.

Re: State Trooper Shot in Wis. - 04/04/15 01:37 AM

Sometimes some sob just kills you. In the U.S. we have a lot of freedoms which gives a person more of an opportunity to kill if they are so inclined. I'm going to give this young trooper the benefit of the doubt on his murder and let the Wisconsin State Police pass judgement on his judgement. I've had friends on both sides these killings and paralysing wounds and many time the investigation revealed some lessons learned. Usually not as many lessons as the people who new nothing about the tragedy knew. I'm not trying to start an argument but the kid gets paid to drink coffee and bs. why a person chooses to put himself on the line to be a soldier or any type of first responder is inside them and I want to just say thanks.
