Client Contracts - 03/08/17 02:09 PM

Just curious if you actually have contracts with your clients, or if you just do the work, get paid, and take appropriate action if payment isn't sent?

I read some stories about unscrupulous clients and can't help but wonder what safeguards are in place to protect trapper against trap theft, nonpayment, etc. I don't do residential ADC, but I'd still like to know...

Almost all clients sign paperwork....very few do not which are usually commercial clients

I don't use contracts.

A contract still needs to be enforced. Cost, time, and opportunity cost of enforcement isn't worth it to me.

Most people are basically honest, for the ones that aren't, or can't pay; a judgement from court isn't likely to change that. But by then, you already wasted a lot more time and energy finding that out.

Looks like I've got my first "wont pay" in 5 years on the line for $75 right now. I guess I'm lucky. I can put the Porcupine back in her shed right?

Let me clarify...i have only once had to show a customer what they signed in 14 years of biz. That being said i use em so the customer knows what to expect of me and what i expect of them and it gives me the right to show up at their property when they arent home. Plus ppwk gets all their info needed for their client file

huntinjunkie...
send them one of these...
I received this on this forum... sorry but I can't remember who to give the credit to...

Dear Customer,
Sometime ago, you called us for help with a wildlife control problem. It was important to you that the problem be handled quickly and professionally. We responded to your call in a quick, courteous and professional manner.
As yet, we have not been paid! We run an honest business, and do not believe in keeping critters that have not been paid for. If payment is not received within 10 days, we will return your critter(s), with their families as interest to you and your property. I believe they are getting homesick!
Just as you have forgotten our payment, we may have unintentionally forgotten what critter(s) it was we removed for you. In the event that you receive the wrong type of critter(s), you may call our office to exchange them for the correct type. We will respond to your exchange request with the same speed that you have shown in making your payment to us.
Yours in friendship,
