I was really hoping to go this year, was working on a presentation with Eric.

Hope lots of folks are heading there, I’m unable to go this time, but a great conference!

HD Wildlife. I would really like to meet you in person. I respect what you have to offer on bats.

Thanks for the kind words Jim. Before we started
our company I was on here constantly reading and
learning from so many of the regulars who had decades
of Bat work under their belt among other species.

Within our first year my wife and I decided to stop doing
all species offerings and narrow our services to bats and
birds.

We immersed ourselves in bats and living where we do where
we have 29 species of Bats, it was a great place to get more
work and pursue a variety of things with bats.

I took some vacation time before I left the govt and flew to
Ohio to take Eric’s Bat Workshop and I credit that education
as well as continued friendship and relationship with him
im getting me started on the right foot and always being someone
I can bounce things off of.

If it wasn’t for an extreme family and work schedule this winter
I’d be there and would enjoy talking bats and birds with you and
others. With bats I feel I’m always learning something new and
I had no clue we’d be working with bats in so many ways if you’d asked me
before.

Is that the one in New Orleans? 25 miles from home. No thanks. If it were in Houma, no problem, but New Orleans, not me buddy.

Nope, not happening this year. I wish more of these types of events were held closer to the west coast, I could have afforded that conference in what I've paid in shipping fees alone several times over. Guess we're out in no man's land in more ways than one. :-(

WCT is often held in Las Vegas, which would put it much closer to you DezerTrapper, that has been a venue for many moons.

I went to it just prior to leaving my former career and had a great time and learned a lot.

Tough for folks though to plan for where the most attendance will be and anticipate that along with costs incurred if not enough folks
show.

I'm unable to go this year but believe in these events and training opportunities. They are also great places to exchange in person with others in our industry who may be doing things differently or have unique methods they present on, as well as meeting your vendors of products and supplies face to face as many sponsor these shows.

No matter where they are held someone will always be required to travel, if its in Vegas, you have eastern folks traveling further, and vice versa when in the east for those of us out here in the southwest and west.

Keep an eye out for future workshops, usually someone on here talks about them if you don't subscribe to WCT magazine which would also list upcoming events in advance.

ps. Budfish, NWCOA is in New Orleans this year, thats likely the one you are thinking about.

That's what I'm hoping for Justin :-) Maybe next year. There's just so little that happens out here, you guys back east also have all sorts of state stuff going on, it's not the same out here. Most of my equipment purchases are from southern or eastern states as well, and shipping costs are a killer!

Brutal, huh? I honestly, literally could have more than paid for this conference in what I've paid in shipping costs this year. Yep, it's a bummer!
