An eastern diamondback rattlesnake my son caught when it was crawling across his lawn yesterday afternoon. It is just a little over three feet in length.

Those things really blend into most any environment. Amazing.

That snake wouldn't be in that condition for a picture if it came across my lawn

Saddlebacks aka eastern diamondbacks are threatened over almost their entire range.

Sounds especially threatened if it's in his lawn!

Always liked snakes, caught lots of different kinds as a kid, but we didn't have rattlers close by, just Timber Rattlers 30 miles away, so we never saw them. First the Rattlers got protected and now I believe all snakes are protected in N.Y., turtles too. Are the Eastern Diamondbacks protected nationwide? Glad we don't have cottonmouths, just copperheads and timber rattlers in N.Y.
