New trap thread?? - 02/09/19 06:55 PM

There was a thread called, "new trap" or something similar up about an hour ago. I had to haul some firewood in, and now I can't find it. About kirks' traps. I did search but it seemed to dissappear like a Chinese student. Had some good reading for me, did the original author delete it? Thanks.

I think that it was posted under the trap talk section.
I know Scott replied on it, so look up his name and go under his resent posts and find it that way.

It was removed because of advertising maybe, the site address was in her signature.

Pretty nice trap, but too rich for my blood.

If my safeguard traps fail meh, I may look into a better trap, but for now safeguard is short money and has stood up to some good battles by some big critters and are still ticking. To each their own.

I used to swear by safeguard. Will never support tomahawk because their in bed with the TNR catnutter anti crowd.
I can't speak to the version of advanced Trap mentioned in the new trap thread but I will speak to the trap as made by Kirk Dekalb the inventor of the wire trigger trap.
Kirk's design is superior in every way. It can be set in multiple ways vetrical, upside down and since almost all of his traps are double door they can even do duty as chimney, channel/trail and positive set traps. IMO, no better design exists and his beaver traps are the best there is.
The traps made in Canada are a different design using a licensed copy of Kirk's wire trigger. Having never handled one I cannot say if that's good or bad or worth the price.

We have been using Safeguard traps as long as they have been in business. We have hundreds of various sizes. Great trap and they have made good adjustments in their designs over the years. Don't own any tomahawks, I have several of Kirks traps and like stated they are well designed and are very effective. Very good traps for many applications. We catch lots of beaver in his traps.

Where and how do you guys buy cage traps at a reasonable price with reasonable shipping charges.

I understand the cost of the item, but the shipping can be outrageous.

I attend the Ohio State Trappers annual event, and have never seen anyone selling new good quality cage traps.

Last year I bought some traps from Jim Comstock. The traps are premium and cost premium, but even though he packed things together to get the best rate, it still was a lot. Not enough to prevent me from buying more traps from Jim.

============

After reading this post, it sounds like I was griping about Jim, his prices, or his shipping. That was not my intention and I apologize to Jim. He makes a first rate trap. Shipping is what it is. Jim saved some money for me by packing as a group.

Get in touch with a trap maker before a show. Maybe they could bring some extra traps with them to the show.

Check with Manawa, Wi based Little Wolf Trapping Supply. Brian specializes in cage traps. I don't know what he charges for freight though.
