Pocket gopher bounty

Pocket gopher bounty - 09/14/19 04:07 PM

Article in the local paper today about how some of the cable companies are matching the bounty on pocket gophers. Seems they have developed a taste for fiber optics cable and it's a good incentive since that would make the bounty in some township's at $10.00 a gopher! Maybe this will get some kids away from their video games and back out in the fields!

Great way to learn about trapping for our young ones!

I saw that same article today. I'm not sure where you live 20scout but I'm in Moe township just south of Brandon and the township is at 5 dollars per gopher and gardonville phone coop will match that. Talking to the phone guys it sounds like the jacket on their new cable has a vegetable oil base to it so it's a buffet for the gophers

I'm in Carlos township and just got them to bump it up to $3 last year. Sounds Gardonville may extend that offer here in the near future. Glad the bounty is that high but sucks that gophers are worth more than muskrats!

It was printed in our local paper earlier but I don't know how to access it. But you can call Gardonville and talk to them about it.

Yep.

$1.50 here per gopher, plus some landowners kick in a stipend. Not as many gophers here anymore though---many seem to think it is due to anhydrous ammonia placed in ag fields as a fertilizer.

Talked to a guy this weekend who said their township just raised to bounty to $7.00 since they can't get any kids to trap gophers. Too bad it's over an hour drive for me to that township.
