Dangle a length of round plastic pipe with a 220 on each end in the water, and hang a big soft plastic paddle tail fishing lure in the middle of it.

I trapped a hatchery for a while. I used to male a "step" from wood that fit the trap (used small blocks to keep trap from falling of) and put these on the floating docks with trap just below the water. Used a drowner with cement weight on end. I caught alot of otters this way.

Take a minnow bucket with minnows, attach a bottomless 5 gallon bucket with slots for a 220 to the top of the minnow bucket. Submerse the works.

Try to submerge 1 of these on a 280. Anchoring it will require some creativity.

Did you have any luck? Just got contacted for the same thing. Curious what you might have tried and what might have worked for you.

AJE looking at that picture, I'm going to say you've been grabbed by that trap. Besides the spring safety's you have two safety's on the jaws. Glad I'm not a member of anything bigger than the 220 club.

Well, I don't know about any "rubber duck", but I do know, having spent time with Dave ( Vinke) in Washington State, that he does have a 'trick' to catch otters in cage traps
on docks and in or around boat houses...and do it with ease.
I'm not going to give away Dave's secret, but if he tell's it, that's on him...

As far as the Kill trap with a fish...that's a dead otter.
For me, that would be a last resort (out of season) and remember, this is in WASHINGTON STATE where you can't use a lot of traps they do in other states, so Dave has figured out
how to catch them in cage traps using an ingenious method.
While I give him 'props' for inventing it, I still haven't ever forgave him for doing it in a Havahart trap !
