Gopher and mole disposal

Gopher and mole disposal - 02/04/20 03:17 PM

Was hoping to get some info on best disposal practices for the mole and gopher I hope to take commercially. I expect to be doing largely residential work initially. The county transfer station does not take dead animals. This part of the business is obviously important for a number of reasons, such as public health and overall customer satisfaction to name two. It has me up at night but can’t figure it out. I am in south Texas, very little public lands and lots of anti-dumping laws. Thanks.

Put them back in the hole they came out of.

we bury every mole we catch right where we catch it. put a blue flag there and if customer wants to dig up the mole to verify we caught it...they can. no need to worry about carcasses this way.

Thanks! I remember a post saying that and a reply saying leaving them on customer property might get them dug up by pet or predator and may cause ant issues in customers yard. We are in a fairly rural area with lots of coyote. Think that may cause problems? Appreciate the responses.

All the rural area you have and we have as well you can place them into a rural area. Hawks and other predators will find most of them in time if not the bugs and flies will take care of them They wont last long. Recycling and giving back to the environment. Use good sense. Being they are so small we all have our own ways to deal with such things.

I don't think anything wants to eat a mole, let alone dig one up. I've left them out and watched the cats turn their noses up at them and they'll just rot in the field.
Shawn Woods has a video out on Mouse Trap Mondays, two skunks and one possum pass on a freshly caught mole. Just after the seven minute mark.

Bob J, that was my first inclination but had visions of someone posting a video of me on Facebook pitching moles in a place I thought was just me there. Too many cameras these days. I want to make this business a success, and a little bad press goes a long way as I’m sure you know. How about this idea? I found a landfill about 45 min from the house. I have a boat barn a couple blocks away where I can keep a coffin freezer and once it’s full take them to landfill and write off the expense. Sound resonable?

Wildflights, thanks for that. Will try not to leave piles around lol, actually I hope I can even get a pile to throw somewhere.

I have a freezer I put the moles or other animals in until pick up day, they are frozen and no smell. In the can they go.

In spring thru late fall we typically running 60 plus yard a week for moles. We check traps once a week...half the time in the summer the moles aren't in a condition to be taken out of the hole

TRapper, is that because you don’t have the time and manpower to check sooner, or do you sometimes get a mole on the later days? Thanks for the reply, really nice website! Trying to figure out what revenue model will work best for me.

We check them once a week too. It's more of a scheduling thing for us. The mole is probably caught later in the day that the trap was set.
