First for me

First for me - 01/28/21 12:18 AM

I had a call last night from a woman that had a animal eating the wiring in her car. Two week ago her car would not start so she had it taken to a garage. They call her back and said something had shewed on her wiring.
She wanted to know if I could trap the critter, she said it was a rabbet. She had seen one near her car, and again it would not start. had to have to taken to the garage again. I see one set of rabbit tracks. Nothing else. One of the residents said he had see a rabbet in the day time.
My question is this common? The temp has been in the mid-20 with a new snow two days ago, about 6 inch.
I live in West Michigan

Seems to be getting more common. Covering on the wire is made out of a soy bean product.

Yes I get calls for this. Groundhogs or mice.
Last spring a guy called me because his truck would not start. He opened the hood and saw a groundhog chewing. He even had time for photos. Huge bill for towing, labor, and a new wiring harness.
He owns a company that makes the plastic for wire insulation. He said they use soy bean oil to make the insulation remain flexible. I really laughed and told him that he deserved what he got. At first he did not see any humor. Then he understood and really laughed.

I have personally had rabbits chew my wires, including spark plugs. Opened the hood and one was sitting there,

Follow the tracks back to the den if possible.

That was the first thing I did, only a couple of track. I think I am in the right spot. No other tracks. Going to try a tube trap tomorrow.
