Out of sight mole traps

Out of sight mole traps - 05/10/21 12:13 AM

I bought several doz Victor Out of Sight mole trap. Their new cheap versions coil springs are half the diameter as the original. The new ones I can set with my hands and the older version Sampson would have to have a set of setters.
Does anyone on here make coil springs. I want to change out the weak springs for ones that work.
Thanks

Yep. I am having some made. I expect them to be finished any day now. Problem is the springs are expensive. The other problem would be getting the replacement spring on the trap.

If the springs you are getting are the same diameter wire and have the same number of coils I would like to order some. If I can get the info on ordering the springs I would appreciate it. I intend to cut the pin spring bolt and replace it with a SS bolt. I think the old traps were cast iron and the new ones are cast aluminum. I really cant beleive Victor made a change that big without changing the name or model number.

The springs I’m having made are technically only for the steel framed traps and will be exact copies. I’m not sure if the new aluminum frame traps can withstand the forces of the stronger spring. There, I covered my a**. Also, you might want to think twice about how you are going to put the new spring on. It is going to require special tooling. I’m still working on that.

Don't bother putting stronger springs on them , the aluminum frames won't handle the stiffer springs and will quickly be broken. They are very fragile.

Yeah hopefully here in the next month or so I will have my prototype worked out. Sometimes when you want something done right you just gotta do it yourself.

Went to Rural King to pick up some things today. Ran by the area for gardening and found a shelf full of Victor OS traps. Appears they are just like the old cast steel traps. Took one out from the box to examine it. Heavy duty and very strong springs. No aluminum traps here. $12.00 each. At least they werent with this batch of traps.

Here is a link to their advertisement- https://www.ruralking.com/catalog/product/view/id/43856

It looks like they can be ordered.

Our rural king is out of stock. Bought the last four our ace store had. They have since restocked and they are the junk ones. This has to hurt victors sales. They were very weak imo.

When did Victor cheapen the OOS trap? I haven't bought a brand new 1 in a while.

Hope Mr.Duke is watching. Is there anyplace in the states to get any of the mole traps made in the UK? Taplex, duffus etc??? I think I would get back into the mole business if I could find reliable traps.

On WCS website it says the traps are unavailable due to redesigning. Does anyone know if they are going back to the old style?

Someone from Univar told my Dad that OOS are being remade and will be available in fall. I also heard that Duke is having them made and will be available at the end of the year.

I've spoken to Bill Duke a few times about this. He's supposed to be working on a mole trap but the covid has delayed new productions.
Hopefully we can get something real soon.

That would be cool

Jacob Barnes makes and sells these. I typically use the No mol style traps, but these are designed to replace the OOS traps. They are well built.

He is a great guy and really good to work with, his company (Viking Product Supplies) makes a lot of NWCO tools and products.

I was told that victor has redone the OOS to make it more like the Gen 2 trap again and they should be out in May. I’ve sent a second message for validation. But hopefully they realized their mistake.

Hopefully Victor fixes their vertical spike style plunger trap while they're at. Those used to be great mole traps until they severely weakened the quality.

hmm, might have to check them out

Not on website yet.

Re: Out of sight mole traps - 02/26/22 03:02 AM

Yes. It’s not made in the USA. They are imports. The manufacturer sent me one to try out and I didn’t like it. The spring was grossly overpowered. I regularly use old school victors with powerful springs but the springs on these traps are just too much.
