Live Trapping Urban Coyotes - 11/10/23 10:45 AM

Has anyone had any success in doing this? If so, what size of trap did you use and what type of set-up did you use? I've had several calls about in-town coyotes and I hate telling folks, "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do for you." I know sometimes that's the only answer. Thanks!

I’d recommend a fence, lol.

But seriously, that would be a pricey trapping job for sure. Then, assuming you caught a coyote and not the neighbor’s dog, they are a social animal and there’s a pretty good chance there are a lot of them in the area. They could easily see one the next night.

I do it all the time. #2 Wolf Creek dogless, standard dirt hole and flat sets.

I'm sorry, let me try this again. Live trapping urban coyotes with a live/cage trap.

I have caught several with larger cage traps. I was using bales of hay to block in the cage for camouflage and odor effect. I used the bales on either side of the trap very snug. Leaving the front and back open. Then I used a trailing scent and I pre baited the cage and wired it open. I put trail cams on mine to make sure I was targeting the right animals.

Once I began seeing visitations and entry into the baited trap and feeding, I set the trap for effect. I always sifted grass, hay, dirt or ground cover over the cage trap bottom and in front of the trap as well. I used lots of eye appeal. Feathered bait or furred baits used with other scents used moderately worked. Most of the yotes I caught were YOY animals.

I think it would get pricy as limestone said, I've had a lot of success using footholds just outside the complaint area, Coyotes will travel the better cover till it runs out & that cover is the place to set. May work the same for cages, but they can disappear & that's pricy. I do the same with Red or Grey for that visit schools or amusement parks. Seems to work rather quickly.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are YOY animals?
