If it is that bad u need to have the microDiscectomy as the nerve root is pinched and irritated. U are young and the surgery isn't bad at all. When u wake up you will feel better, sore but that leg won't be throbbing like a drunks head. Put this on the trap forum, lots of over there have had or have this issue. Will get more feedback a lot faster over there. I hope this helps, been in your Shoes many years!

Have you tried walking? A good long walk, or a few good long walks, it works for me and a friend of mine who told me. I probably don't have disc problems as bad as you do, but if you can walk without too much pain it might be worth a try.

I found the trick to healing my back. A 4 mile backpack trip hauling traps on the trap line!

Not fun, The only relief i have found is i bought a inversion table. I bet i have let over 20 people try it out both guys and gals. Found it used on creigs list. Three to five min on that and good to go. The doctors told me if i did not let up i would be in a wheel chair. No headaches now for years. Only use it when i need to. Will never be with out one. The unit i have you can get into it with you boots on ,work shoes, bare feet. Holds you by your ankles. Find some one close by that has one and try it out.

When you go on a walk you need to use 2 hiking sticks. When you step forward swing the stick furtherest away from your leg forward. I learned this at a clinic. It helps give you balance. Be careful with chiropractors sometimes they can make your pain worse.

Been fighting this since 1994. Tried it all ,be very careful with meds since this is chronic condition the meds become chronic. If you want relief ,I found the surgery to work. You will wake up with the pain gone. I was young and afraid to have the surgery too. If you wait to long you can cause permanent damage. That nerve that the herniation l4, l5 is touching when damaged can lead to drop foot and loss of bladder control. Hope you heal!

I'm 37 and been doing this since I threw it the first time at 20.

Stretching will save your back. A strong core will do miracles for you too. Stay mobile, stretch OFTEN, and do a lot of core strengthening to build up your stabilizing muscles. For the bulge, anti inflammatory are about the best you can do for now till the stretching kicks in.

Try A Tommy Copper or a Copper Fit copper infused compression garment. "knee sleeve" The Copper Fit is sold at the Dollar General store for $10.
It really has eliminated the sciatica pain that was bothering me. You may be surprised at how a knew sleeve can give you relief in your back and leg.

Ice, specific stretches, walking.
A chiropractor has helped me a ton.

Here is the key after battling bouts with this........I now go in for a monthly chiropractic visit, just to keep things in line, vs only going when I'm really hurting, a bit of preventive maintenance if you will.
*Also, once feeling better, KEEP DOING the stretches!!

Lastly an inversion table has also helped, took me a while to really get comfortable and relaxed hanging upside down, but man do I feel better once I've stretched out.

No disk problems,, but did have the nerve down the legs and at times couldn't get up off the floor. I would have to walk bent over. Chiropractor did get me free and able to walk and pain free for a while. Then it would go out again. One day a therapist ask if he could try some new exercises on me the help back. Of course. Had me place my foot against a wall, 5 lbs pressure applied against wall using the ankle holding for count 8 sec while foot was at a 45 degree angle. Then do same for both feet. Same position but hold foot three inch up from floor, same count same angle. Then turn around like your going to back kick some one and place you foot against the wall. Keep thigh flat, foot flat against the wall, and knee pointed straight out. 5 pounds pressure again against wall with foot flat. Same 8 count. I was visiting the Chiropractor on an average 2 1/2 times a week. Since i started these exercise 12 years I have only went three times. Next visit ask him / her about these don't know the name but they do. Reason why I know this, cause saw my Chiropractors assistant one day getting coffee. He stated haven't seen you in a while. Told him what I was was doing and he stated ya that's ????? ??????? ??????/? ????. I thought why in the world they didn't tell me about these before. Hope you can find these they are awesome, just boring exercise.

Just had 5 total pieces of disk r3moved from l4and l5. 1 with laparoscopic surgery and then 4 more open laparoscopically after that didn’t work at all. Epidurals worked partially. 5 days post op I’m walking a mile on the treadmill in 30 min no problem. Sciatica had gotten so bad 100 yards hurt terrible some days. No sciatica anymore. Got to build core muscles a lot or I’ll be fusing them in the future. Lots of restrictions now, but not a terrible post op experience.
