Palatable baits

As someone who's never really got into the bait making end of things,I have a question;If a guy either made his own or bought a bait made out of,say,beaver,and added bait solution to it,would that bait be palatable for predators?A type of bait a guy could use for pre baiting that they would continue coming back to?

look for a cheap horse. lead out where you want to draw in coyotes and shoot it

I'm not looking for big baits

If going for an editable bait I probably stay away for added a bait solution. But I doubt know what is in each one. For prebaiting a good straight meat should be good enough I would think.

I was thinking of something a guy could put up in volume late summer ,early fall.A straight meat product would work,but I want enough to work with when I need it.I have no experience with the bait solutions,as a matter of fact I've never really prebaited,except for 'coon.Just a idea I'm kicking around

I know of a pre-bait you could make, but it won't be meat based. In a 1 gallon jug put in some tinctured beaver castor, fish juice (not oil, this is the nasty stuff under the oil) or fish oil, some beaver sac oil, a bit of fox urine, some skunk essence, then fill the jug with fryer oil. Using a piece of rebar, punch a hole in the ground and pour this into the hole. Canines will dig like crazy, and they keep coming back. Critters can't run off with the bait, ants can't carry it away, and it isn't an exposed bait to get the attention of birds.

Collect all the road kill you can find over the summer into fur season. Keep dumping them into the same spot and you will concentrate coyotes. There is a 400 acre cow calf operation about 2 miles from my house. they have a dead cow or calf every now and then. Drag anything dead to the same spot. Been using that spot for decades. I set traps in there Nov 13 and just pulled them the 9th of Jan.. Took 27 coyotes off that 400 acres. the first 20 showed up in the first 3 weeks. Went over there yesterday as we had a bunch of snow and I seen what I think was a track from this years pup. It was headed over where those dead cattle get dumped and right now there is nothing there but bones. Hasn't been anything drug in there for several months.

Last snow was a couple weeks ago. 4 came through and I caught two of them. Caught two more over the next several days.

I feel confident that lone coyote track yesterday was because that pup was following its nose to that old dead pile.

Mr. Dobbins, is this the recipe that your father used in Land Sets and Trapping Techniques when he discusses prebaiting? I believe i am remembering the correct book.

I didn't give out the recipe, only the ingredients. Yes, it's the same one.

Interesting.Because somewhere in my library of trapping material I have that book.....time to start going thru some boxes.....

every year when I butcher meat chickens I save all the feathers, heads, legs, and intestines. Put in a hole dug in the trapping area and cover. When the hole looks like a bomb went off put in standard sets anywhere with in 50 to 75 yards.
