Beaver Castor Lure - 02/06/23 03:30 AM

I have some castor I want to grind up to make a castor lure for winter Beaver in open water.

What tips and information can you give me?

I know beaver lures aren't as secretive as predator lures, so if you can help I'd appreciate it.

So far I've thought about Castor, Oil sack oil, Spearmint oil ( or Peppermint oil), Poplar oil

Nothing special just beaver meat with castor and maybe some popal oil.

I use sac oil, glycerene, separate. Castor, vodka, glycol, glycerne, old spice. Go easy on the old spice, I use it pretty thin. Gonna try some with grease pretty soon.

Save the chili for ice cream!

Mine is castor, glycerin for Walmart, cheap rot-gut whiskey, and a touch of anise and vanilla extract, again from Walmart. Works good enough for me, and smells so good I'd be tempted to use it as cologne.

Loosegoose, I gotta ask. why the rot gut whiskey? Odor?

Or anyone else care to elaborate on the whiskey in beaver lure?

Maybe to give lift to the scent? No experience, just spitballing

I like to soak castor in red wine for at least a month before I grind it.

ok, red wine. What does it do for the castor by soaking in it? Just curios.

A freind told me about the red wine thing quite a few years ago. I am not sure exactly what happens. I was told he got it from Dave Edwards. It works. after you let it soak a few months grind it still wet. I guess its the food smell of fermented grapes that gives it a kick. I suspect it improves volatility as well.

When I use to provide some castors to Dave Edwards, he'd always ask me to soak them in burgandy wine for six months first. This was after I dried them and before grinding.
