Im rotting down a base for a lure. It is notorious for molding quickly! Any cure for this? Thankyou!
Methylparaben is what you need. Works great at inhibiting mold. You can get it here -

You are correct.
Adding any type of preservative or mold retardant prior to or doing the aging process can inhibit the breakdown and aging process. Best thing to do is scrape or skim the developing mold from the top of the batch and from the sides of the container as it develops. This mold is typically superficial and can be removed easily with a butter knife, spatula or another utensil. Just be sure to only skim what is deemed contaminated material. We also have some base materials that are very subject to mold growth.
You can mix some MP in some hot water and dilute it, place it in a spray bottle. Lightly spray the aging material surface and the inside walls of the container / lid and this will stop mold growth.
Do not stir the mold into the material. Surgically remove it. Mold typically grows in O2 exposed areas for the most part. Occasionally you may get mold strips that develop internally deep into some meats if there are void areas in the container. That is why it is very important to thoroughly blend your batches to prevent bacteria growth once you have stopped them.
