I agree with the everclear. I’ve put trail cameras on whitetail scrapes and you would be surprised at the number of furbearers that visit them.

appreciate all the replies!

question regarding Everclear...does the extracted odor evaporate too quickly? how would you slow that rate down, without changing the odor itself?

The alcohol may evaporate but the base material that is dissolve in it and carries the odor will not. Just like cooking with vanilla extract.

After it has tinctured for several months I add some glycerine.

I'm not familiar with that process, TravC...guessing smashing up the mother material and soaking in some sort of oil?

thanks, ozark trapper ia!

I have 3 batches going from middle of December. Been shaking them every couple weeks. In the next month or two will add glycerine then in a couple months will finish them. Each batch will be a little different.

thank you, ozark!

I guess adding glycerine after the extraction was the part I was missing. reading back over different threads, it may have been alluded to, but I'm not the best at "picking up" on subtleties (just ask my wife!)

I can't make or possess natural deer scent anymore in my state and the cost of setting up a manufacturing in another state was not worth the cost with sales, but what I did for 30 years in making our line of deer scents was I used alcohol to extract the oils from the glands then at a certain time added glycerin to carry the oils and give body when the alcohol evaporates. When I first started making deer scents in 1990, I used propylene glycol but changed to glycerin as it seemed to hold up better in my formulations.
