Re: wild carrot time - 06/12/12 02:45 PM

this is just a special order for the tops.

the roots are quite edible however when young, but you must be 100% sure of what you are looking for because there are a few plants that look similliar to wild carrots that are very toxic.

plants like water hemlock can kill you.

the tops are cut at ground level and then dried in the shade so they will retain the green color.

i would highly recommend someone to go with you who knows the diffrence between carrots and hemlock.

my computer will no longer accept pics from my camera, so i'll have to borrow pics from the net to show you how simmilar they look.

it really don't take that long to get 100lbs worth. just park my truck in a feild and start hacking away with my machete. wished they bought it all the time...lol. i got around 50 lbs worth so far,,,took me probably 2 hours.

it'll take longer to dry it than it does cutting it.

Im glad i never tried to use what i thought was yarrow. There is quite a bit of that stuff (wild carrot) growing around me. It would take a lot of cuttin to get 100#.

Re: wild carrot time - 07/21/12 01:59 AM

it is quite edible too.........just make sure you get the young roots........the older they get, the tougher they get...........kinda like a radish...too big and they get pithy and woody.
