Spraying water on fleshing board? - 04/12/18 03:35 AM

I was watching a You Tube video where a guy misted a little water on his fleshing beam before fleshing, to avoid singe on his otter. Do you do that?

A lot of late caught otter are singed already before fleshing.I prefer to frost scrape otter, but I realize not everyone has the conditions for that method.
If I have to do an otter on the beam,I keep my beam clean and dampen the guard hair on the otter.

It's my opinion that a otter Is either singed or It's not singed. The few minutes you have It on the beam Isn't going to change anything.

But wetting down the beam or fur Isn't going to hurt anything.

Another thought.
I just looked at my beam and I doubt that any water sprayed on It would even stay on It. With over 20 years of use It has a finish that would repeal water like a ducks back.

My guess is that the risk of singeing anything on the fleshing board is quite slim.
