Fixed width vs adjustable coyote stretchers

So when I last put up coyotes years ago I used my dad's stretchers, which are adjustable. We put the coyote on the board and opened them up to the width of the coyote. I've been hearing about guys using the same width for all their coyotes so they look more consistent, and hearing about putting them up as narrow as is practical to make them look longer, which I believe involves some type of pleating?

What does everyone think are the best practices for best prices? Wife wants to do some calling this year so going to need to build a couple stretchers.

Obviously a split board is the way to go for easy removal, so I guess a better way to phrase the question would be do you open up your stretchers as wide as the coyote or go to a narrower fixed width for some reason?

I open to a fixed width for the size of the animal, lge, med and sm per NAFA specifications for the animal being dried. I have my boards marked accordingly for that purpose:

I use solid boards and see no reason to use a split board. It's very difficult to stretch a coyote so It's longer Then It Is.
All my boards are standard width and all my coyotes fit just fine. A wedge In from the mouth end and one in from the bottom end will give you easy removal.
The solid board gives you a nice even look to the hide when It's done.
But both will do the job.

I use solid boards for the fur in phase (to get the shape), once I turn them they go on adjustable ones for air flow.

I make all my own boards to fit my section of fur.I make them so the pelt is the natural shape of the animal when dry.Not long and skinny nor short and fat-but natural dimension shape.All solid except wolf boards which are split boards.
Animals of the same species can be very different in size from one section to another.For example,a board that works for fox in the US would be way too small for a fox from around James/Hudson bay.

You stretch them for length until snug or put them on a larger (wider) board per auction house specs and shape.

All my boards are made to NAFAs specs.
I put up fur for them for over 10 years.

As far as Nafa goes do you use a 71/2 board or 9" for your coyotes? NAFA list them as a coyote, lynx, lynx cat and wolverine board. Thanks

For medium and small you use the 7 1/2 width and 9 inch for large and extra large. You stretch for length, not width, when using either solid or split boards. Adjustable is the wrong, and misleading, terminology for split boards.

Here is some pics of my boards, both the top and bottom. Fox are boarded on a consistant sizeboard, so why not coyotes! I like a split board for drying purposes, can dry coyotes in two to three days. I don't pin the tails, only use four pins on the back legs and six pins to pin the ears down. My yotes have graded muchh better since I went to this board. It is 7 1/2 at the base of the yote, and make sure the belly is centered on the board.

I use nothing but solid boards. I take my coyotes off once they will maintain there shape. In my shop that's about 2 days. Then I hang them with 2 wedges Inserted. They dry a lot better and faster when they are off the boards. And that also frees up your boards.
