After retrieving your catch from the water, do you often try to comb the fur at the truck or do you always wait until you get home?

If the coon Is muddy I'll slosh It around In the water to get some of the mud out of It. Mink and rats dry fast and a quick combing In the shop will clean them up.
Before I board I always either comb or give the fur side a quick blast of air from the compressor to fluff them up.
Never put rats on the forms wet or even damp. They will mat up as they dry and It will be very hard to correct It.

After skinning/fleshing coo N and canines, I run the through a quick cycle in the washer with a small amount of soap. Then they go into the dryer on "air fluff" cycle which uses no heat. They then go on the stretcher.

Thanks for the tip, but I can't imagine putting fur in my washer and dryer.

Same here. Just like if I put traps in the dishwasher.

I comb my coons when I get home to get the chunks out, then I let mine hang until dry with a fan on them, usually 24 hours will do it. Then I just comb the heck out of them, going with and against the fur, and that gets most of the dirt out.

Oh, ok, against the fur, too, loosegoose. I haven't tried that enough.

A decent air compressor Is the trappers best friend. It can blow about 90% of the water out of the fur. And Is great for fluffing dry fur once It's on the board.
A wet dry vac will also work but the air compressor Is better.
