Who else’s enjoys the put up process of trapping
It just feels like im “finishing” the job and really take pride in it
Having a lot of my pelts tanned also helps
Me see that I’m doing a good job for buyers

I love the put up. It’s my therapy time. Of course that may would change if I was putting up 100’s of coons instead of 75 to 100. Or 100 beaver instead of a quarter of that. Coyotes are about the only ones I don’t enjoy putting up.

Yes I like to put up fur. I worked for the last fur buyer in town for years. Put up a lot. But the cold coyotes was no fun. Thought of getting a fur license and let the fur come to me. This will be the first year for me to go trap coyotes. I was good at the fox years ago ,but I will let them all go.

I enjoy putting up fur, same reasons. I like to see the process finished.

I enjoy getting the grades back from the auction houses and seeing I did a good job and had a nice product. I enjoy getting the check in too but cannot lie, would rather be out in the woods then in the fur shed.
Started putting up my fur last year, and i can honestly say i truly enjoyed it. A very calming endeavor for me. Eric
The put up process is one I have learned to love and take pride in. More of an art than anything else if you ask me. Luckily I had a great teacher (my uncle) who has been putting up fur since the mid 70's. I don't even mind skinning anymore. There's just nothing like pulling a finished coyote off a stretcher giving him a good whip and seeing the result of your hard work from start to finish!

Coyotes are a pain, but am starting to enjoy doing them...
Seems like every time I skin something it's different. None skin out exactly the same. That's just my take but I don't seen anything cookie cutter when it comes to skinning and fleshing.

The fleshing prosses is a pain in my back, I don't like it one bit. I think this is mainly because I don't have a proper station to do it. The rest of the put up is enjoyable, but I'm with Saskfly and I rather be in the woods then in the fur shed.

At first putting up fur seems like a chore, and can be disheartening if you damage a pelt.Plus there is a learning curve for each species. Some species are a real pleasure to put up,like rats, mink, marten and in fact all the small animals.
Larger pelts(bears, wolves) are more work, but once you get some experience, get good tools, and refine your methods, the larger pelts can be a pleasure to do also.I hear a lot of trappers say that they dont like putting up beaver.Of the larger species, beaver is the pelt I like to put up better than any other furbearer.I dont find beaver difficult at all.Very clean and not stinky or messy.
Like was said if you get swamped with fur and are working to meet a fur pick up deadline it can get tedious.Pace yourself, work on your technique, attend all your council skinning workshops to learn all the tried and true techniques hands on from the pros, and speed will come.

I enjoy it I usually fire up the rocket stove and turn on the radio and listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I never thought putting up fur was a pleasure. I don't think it is terrible either. Maybe fleshing an old green belly wolverine sucks, but they are worth it. I never enjoyed wolves, because they were heavy, blood control was an issue and you have to taxidermy skin them. Prone to some nasty green belly too. I have had people walk in while I'm skinning a nasty green belly wolf with my nose inches from the belly and turn around and walk back out.

You get bad farts after skinning green wolves too.Thats one drawback. But you can have fun with that too if your in an enclosed area with other people.
Did you know a semi bloated wolf can let out a big burp when you cut off the snare, and that grey coloured stuff that drips out of their nose is perfumey too.
But some nice finished hides makes it worth while.

They really don't improve until they come back from the tannery.
