Winter Waterfowl

Winter Waterfowl - 11/18/18 03:46 AM

Several thousand recently moved in to my region here on the south shore of Lake Ontario from the north to overwinter on the big lake. The large flocks pictured were Red-breasted Mergansers.

I love the array of colors found on the winter time ducks. Thanks for the pictures

I never knew RBM's would flock up in that large a group. That is a pile of fish eaters.

Actually the Red Breasted Merg's have been feeding on wild rice for the past 2 months and the 1 inch of fat on them has no fish odour incorporated in them. There are several lakes up north that have that many birds on them at one time.

Good to have seen flocks of that size again.
