My wife had knee replacement surgery yesterday. All went well and she got released from the hospital late today with 2 scripts, one for Percocet and one for a blood thinner. Fourteen day supply for each. We stop at Walmart Pharmacy because it's on the way home. They tell me they can only fill the Percocet for 7 days - Walmart policy on opiates. I say OK, but the clerk says that's all they will fill on that script, they won't fill the remaining 7 days worth. What??? I say "if I came in with a 14 day script for an antibiotic and you only had 7 days worth you would give me the 7 days and tell me to come back for the rest in a day or two." But no, this is different, Walmart knows better than the docs and will only fill for 7 days. Try explaining that to the doc. I need another script because Walmart would only 1/2 fill the one you gave me. I told her "OK, I won't darken your door again," and then went to CVS who filled it without issue.

I doubt my wife will use even 7 days worth, but that's not Walmart's call. The last time I had an issue at a Walmart pharmacy it was because a doc had written a script for 2 drugs and I only wanted one of them filled. At that time they told me "we can't do that, you have to buy both because that's what the doc put on the script." Now they want to violate what the doc ordered. Like I said, I won't darken their door again. I understand that over prescription of opiates has been a problem, as has been overuse by those who were prescribed, but I don't want Walmart HQ making medical decisions for me or my family members.

May need to take it somewhere else. Opiates are getting really difficult to prescribe too.

The other problem you would've faced had you filled the 7 day Rx is the insurance company may have initially denied the 2nd half because the 1st half was filled.

I don't get the whole drug war, period. All it has done is restrict our freedoms and made it harder for us non dopeheads to get medicine we legitimately needs...like sinus medicine with ephedra or whatever in it.

I say put all the dope any junkie could want out there and let them buy it. Eventually they'll all kill themselves off and the drug problem would go away. That would also kick the feet out from under all the cartels and make the border situation better.

Funny thing is the ones that have 3 or 4 different doctors,doesn't work here anymore as it now goes in a computer and every pharmacy knows it has been filled.I don't even take an aspirin unless I really need it.

We quit the WalMart pharmacy years ago, we go to Walgreens now.

same here, bout 10 yrs ago, but tried CVS for 5 yrs until they decided 8:52 was too close to PICK UP a drug at the window that had been called in 8 hrs earlier, have had no problems with Walgreens since starting there 4 yrs ago...as soon as they built it!

Knee replacement recovery takes some time and pain. Wish her well; prayers sent.

There is a new "rule" about morphine equivalents and how the doc writes the script. If it says take 1-2 every 4-6 hours, they won't fill it because the daily morphine equivalent is too high. Pharmacies call the er back all the time needing it written different. That's crazy they offered to fill it like that when they should have contacted the doctor instead.

Had two replacements on same knee. First procedure resulted in 10 weeks in a recovery hospital. Lots of IVs and pain control. Severe infection. Six different PT scrips and knee is still toast. Tell WalMart to call me about post knee surgery.

Cant say I really blame them. Unless you live under a rock or were opioid addiction/overdoses are rare, we have endured 4 months of constant political commercials bashing anyone even remotely connected to pharmaceutical companies from both sides.

Walgreens is ate up too. My boy had shoulder surgery last month. Doc prescribed 2 painkillers... One is to be taken on a schedule to manage pain, the other was for "breakthrough" pain.

Walgreens said they would only fill one, not both.

We politely told Walgreens to go soak their heads and the Doc filled both scripts from the pharmacy in his office.

I feel the opposite. My english setter became diabetic 4 years ago. 10 mL of Novolin N anywhere is well over $100. Walmart carries Novolin N for $25 and no prescription needed. Unreal. Walmart's pharmacy saves me over $1,000 every year on insulin. Now multiply that by 4 years.... that's more than $4,000 still in my pocket thanks to Walmart's pharmacy. I don't know how they can do it, but they do.

plenty of pills for sale from drug dealers. no way they are so available without collusion from the same pharmaceutical companies making up their own rules. no way all that afghan opium is turned into heroin and brought to the u.s. without u.s. government collusion. war on drugs is just another excuse to take our liberty and our tax dollars
