Finally getting to the finishing stages of the drywall from the leak. It has been slow going for me with my health issues. Since I had to rip open the wall to look for the leak I decided to knock out the entire wall. as there was 3 different textures on it which always drove me nuts.

With that being said I need a quick and easy texture idea for the kitchen wall. I really don't want to do skip trowl.

Light orange peel, you can buy a texture sprayer pretty cheaply or just borrow one; it's easy to do.

What Waggler said, spray it. If it’s small use the oil-based cans. If it’s more than a few cans worth, and you have an air compressor you might as well buy a hopper.

All that said, if you want to be really cheap, I have done decent texture in a pinch by flicking it with my fingers. Just mask/cover the room good cause it’s messy. It works, especially if you’re not trying to match any existing.

You can spatter joint compound on with a whisk broom for an orange peel look or roll it on with a texture roller.

A good back up is to save all yer fur fish game, and any other magazines, Playboy comes to mind, and do a custom wall paper. I see a cabin where the whole interior was flattened cases of Budweiser. It was rather festive to say the least.

Put on a thin layer with a texture roller, and shortly before it dries, knock it down with a wide blade.

.......or just do a good job taping and mudding , and do it smooth-wall. Imo kitchen walls should be smooth or fine texture (light orange peel) so they are easier to clean.

THIS !!! I hate texture on walls. If you finish it smooth and paint it with a 1/2" roller, you will have a very tiny, fine texture just from the roller. Looks more professional than trying to hide glitches with texture........IMO

Awesome thanks everyone I appreciate it. I think I did a decent job with the mud especially since I have done drywall in under 20 years. Still gotta sand it which will have to wait until Friday. I like smooth walls too. Just stinks all of the walls and ceilings in the house are all different textures.

I kinda want to leave it smooth but texture will hide any/ most flaws.

Use FLAT paint. That will hide the flaws better than anything

I mix up mud with water to thin it, and spray it on so as the have dime to quarter size globs to knock down , leaving those size islands. There are no imperfections to cover in my work, and that's not why I do a knock down texture. I do it because it looks awesome.

I do smooth walls too, for a little more money.

Thanks White.
Trapper les, I haven't looked for imperfections yet been way too busy. I do know I stil need to build up a slight bump due to framing. Don't get me started on the terrible framing someone did years ago. The bump is between the top of the built in pantry and the ceiling.

I run a damp sponge instead of sanding.

Les, out of curiosity, what’s the going rate per sf to finish in your area for texture vs smooth? I get $.50/sf to finish smooth walls here and $1.00 per linear ft for corner bead. I couldn’t see myself doing it for less even if it’s textured. I charge the same price for texture or smooth. Most of the time, customers want some type of texture on the ceiling.

But it won't stop the echo. three people talking or one moving dishes around in a slick room sounds like a train derailment in a tunnel.
