A peroxide, baking soda and dawn dish soap instantly changes the smell. It foams like crazy but neutralizes the smell instantly.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I catch a few skunks as incidentals in mink boxes in 120's.They spray sometimes,so I hang them up in a nearby brush until my next trip over the line in a couple of days. Then I skin them on the line next trip thru.I freeze the bagged skins until springtime, then flesh and board outdoors.
If you are catching and processing lots you would need a better method, but that works for the few I get.

Skunk one drying off in the shed after two days in the creek. No odor and he had sprayed all over his tail.

Got another one this morning that sprayed. It will be collected tomorrow morning then soaked in the creek for a while before skinning.

Eh...wot?

LOL Tomato juice is worthless.

1 qt Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup Baking soda
1 good squirt of liquid dish soap (I like lemon scented)

Results are INSTANT and spectacular

Don't try to save the left overs, the CO2 build up will destroy the container.

The key to shooting a skunk and not having it spray is to hit them right at the at the base of the spine below the head. Of the 4 skunks I've shot there has only been a couple of drops of stink from the gland on their fur. I carry a scoped 10 22 and its a little of a waiting game to get them facing away for a good shot. You want to break the spine and not take out the head it paralyzes their body from there down I believe Rusty Johnson talked about this at the Missouri rendezvous

Bad advice in so many ways, one that is the spot that holds the rabies virus and 2nd and any disruption to the spine area will about guarantee a spray. PM sent!

Good to know about the spine. I read how rabies travels through the nerves into the spine and eventually to the brain and game over. I dont keep my skunks but shooting them this way so far I can take them right out of the trap and do a remake there is a little smell but no worse than some open gusto or hellfire. Dont have very many here at home so I don't have to deal with them very often but I'm 4 for 4 but num 5 might go off like a paint bomb. Either way everyone be careful I treat every critter like it has something no matter how healthy it looks

I have my 2 in the creek right now. I will go back and get them in a couple of days and see how they smell.

Use it for coyote and fox bait.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Had some request for the skunk pole set up so here it is, just find a fiberglass pole be it a tent pole, CB antenna, trampoline surround support, chimney brush pole then cut a X in the tip cut the back (thumb circle) off of the syringe and it will slide on the pole don't over cut the X you want it tight.
