I don't think there is much a guy can do about the weight besides not over stretching them. There is lots of discussion on here about this. I believe a beaver can be over stretched

That all depends Forester. You can probably bring a heavy down to a semi by overstretching, or a semi down a notch too. But when most of the market is just hatter it's all about lbs so it's moot point. Out here buyers measure the pelts and mark down their prices accordingly so it behooves us to stretch them to the max. What I get for an XL compared to just a Large has historically been quite significant.

Just looking at some prices from last year. If I understand my grades right 1x i-ii lt was a 13 $ beaver lg select heavy about a 17 dollar beaver. I doubt a guy could make a difference in 2 weights by stretching. Just the quickest example I could find. Also I think over stretching brings out more of the defects in a pelt increasing the chances of loosing a grade on quality as well.
I'm sure someone with more experience then me will chime in.

I hear what you're saying, but your section of beaver will have lots of contenders to make heavies. Out here, (and I expect many other places) our beaver just never will make heavy so the buyers are buying square inches. Stretch-em!

I’ll just chalk it up to I overstretched them I guess. Must have pulled them a tad tighter than usual. Sucks though, all the ones that graded light Were 3x-2x and extra large, oh well. Thanks.
