I have been chewed on three times in my life only once by a yote. The first one was a coon in a tree. I climbed the tree to punch him out to a couple of young dogs. The coon didn't fall from the first punch and came after me, hanging onto a tree limb is not a good place to fight an animal that lives in trees. He bit to the bone on one finger ripping half way around the finger before I got him to fly.
The second was a grinner. I used to take care of them by hand and somehow I got a finger to close to the grin. I no longer do things that way.
A year ago last season on a very cold day I got in a hurry nose knocking an aggressive yote. The yote dodged my swing and grabbed my gloved hand, as I kicked her off of my hand she latched onto my shin causing me to loose my balance. The fight that ensued is a little fuzzy, but by the time it was over I no longer needed to use my death ray. That yote never broke any skin, but left several teeth marks and some deep bruising along with removing 2 fingers from my glove and adding some rips in my coveralls. Thankfully this is the only damage she done. I don't get many aggressive yotes, but the few I do get can be nasty buggers. A good tap on the nose and they usually let me put the death ray on though. I have started carrying a longer knocker after that incident, I just don't trust my 16 inch punch hole rod anymore.
Hope someone can get a little humor or education from my stupidity. Dad always said if you gonna be dumb, you better be tough. Just not in that family friendly translation.
