Made this set on Jan 1. Pulled the flag this past Monday. She wasn’t there this morning at 0500, but was waiting on me this evening at 1630. All it was baited with was quail parts after they’d cleaned birds and a couple squirts of bobcat urine. And this is after 2+” of rain last weekend.

Nice pic.
I wonder if the flagging hurt, or if the cat just coincidently happened to come thru after you removed the flag.
I've been using some flagging but sometimes I'm thinking if a person is set right on sign then flagging may not be helpful.
Good post. Thanks

I think flagging is always a plus. I flag every cat set. That being said I catch a lot of cats on yote sets in the middle of no where. Almost always on dirt holes However this one was on a two turd.

I think there are two lessons here. 1) a good cat spot is worth being patient on and 2) the more you monkey up a set (flagging etc) the more the coyotes stay away and the more the cats want to come in. Ive snagged some of my best cats in sets that look like a 7 yr old made

With bobcats it's all about eye appeal.

The nice cat you got tonight came through after only 1 night Wanna Be. I guess ya just never know. In my area they don't seem to follow any sort of pattern this season.

I feel like the worst thing for confidence is a first night catch! May seem dumb, but makes you really question the sets you've had out for 2+ weeks, lol.

Sure would be exciting to get enough cats to trap in northern Ohio ,or Ohio period!

We apparently have quite a few down here. Caught 3 at each property I’ve hit so far this season. We don’t have any “hunters” that target cats, they are just a target of opportunity. I just pulled off a place that I spent 2 weeks at and the landowner just sent a pic of another cat, lol.

I am so envious of the fact you don’t have snow

And I’m envious that you do, lol. Would make finding sign/tracks so much easier. I just set in likely looking areas and hope for the best. Trail cams help out a lot for predator scouting, and that’s hoping you get a pic. This set was on a 2 track that borders a clearcut across the property line. Found turkey and rabbit scat so set a few down the road just hoping. Seeing how actual tracks are mostly nonexistent I just look for and set on prey sign.Seems to work for me.
