My buddy, retired law officer and game officer lives off grid. No electric, utility bills etc and taught a few courses in Illinois awhile back before doing his missionary work in South America. He is hosting again in s.e. Ohio on wild plant foods and for medicines and a whole lot more. .He is alot more into what's going on in the world than me. He engineered and built his neat home, water system fridge etc. He lives high up in the woods in s.e. Ohio only a high clearance vehicle can get up there.

It's an interesting concept, and something most of us on here probably all ready know a little about. Like trapping, you can prep a little, or go full blown like your buddy. He sounds like he'd be an interesting guy to visit with.

Being rural, and being fetched up by Depression survivors, I was always sort of a survivalist.....or prepper, as they are called today. 25 years ago we were considered to be kooks by mainstream folks. Today prepping is wildly popular, especially wildcrafting and foraging. I never went whole hog bury-stuff-in-the-yard type survivalist, but have always put food up, bought in bulk, and stashed stuff ahead.....but that's what my folks always did.

Seems that everyone is a survivialist today. The toilet paper shortage scared the s*** out of everyone.
Looked online last night for AR 15 and they all say OUT OF STOCK.
I think everyone aware of what is going on now is doing some preparing for the future. I have been for years.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

The only thing I bury in my yard is ammo cans of lure and that's just during the summer. The rest of the year they're riding in the pickup or in the fur shed.

I'm probably more of a survivalist than most but not obsessed like some. We stock a lot of stuff ahead. We could go a couple of months without getting out if we needed too. I like staying away from crowds and hate cities but I'm not going off grid. I'm too spoiled. I could make it with no electric, internet, or running water but I don't want too.

X2

For some weird reason I paid a lot of attention to my folks, aunts and uncles, all of whom were born in the 20's or before, when I was growing up. What I learned from them has served me well over the years.

A good portion of what the preppers, survivalists or whoever is teaching or preaching these days was either just a way of life or at the very least, common knowledge in the not to distant past.

There was a lady back in the day that opened a trading post out in the hills. She was too isolated and her store failed and she was stuck with a bunch of merchandise. Then along came the Easter blizzard....and she saved a lot of people by having that stuff on hand.
