If we want access, and logs, it needs to be responsibly opened up for such.
Even the Natives logged off nearly all of the land they got in ANILCA.

Agreed. Proper timber management is a must. The Native Corp I’m apart of has actively been logging for 40 years, some 2nd growth will be ready to get relogged in 2035. We have extensive thinning programs and transplant saplings in some areas. Not all private timber sales get that much treatment and it hurts the growth production in years to come.

I am 100% in favor of opening logging in the Tongass. As SE Current touched on, the type of harvest and forest management practices we saw in the hay days of timber production in SE AK have lead to opportunity for potential harvest of second growth in the very near future. There were also a good number of clear cuts and roads put into corporation owned lands that left the land far less opportunity to recover. Given that a half century has passed from those operations and today forestry management practices have evolved in that time I base my support of future timber harvest on that, management with a high level of focus on sustainability.

Y254’s question only asked in regards to logging in the Tongass and that must be due to the recent roadless exemption of late. This exemption is not about merely building roads but also about exploration of future and expansion of known existing resource potentials as well as inter community infrastructure. In my opinion this change of policy opens many doors of opportunity for this region that were previously dead bolted shut by the previous federal land management rules.

Another reason to vote the "right way" next Tuesday.

If you don't, this progress will soon all be administratively overturned (if Biden remembers that its a thing.....!) C'mon man!

While I know nothing about it, my initial thoughts were that it was a good decision. Just heard Trump put a stop to the Pebble mine project. I dont know much about that area either, but I do know some outfitters that will be happy to hear that news. Seems like with Trump we just keep winning.

A 60 man logging camp recently barged and set in place for 2021. It’s like they knew this was coming. [Linked Image]
