I picked up a RWS Diana model #40 17 cal cheap.
Stock is rough , moderate pitting.

When grabbing the muzzle brake to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) it I discovered it needed to be retightened to barrel.
As you see in the stock photo below there is an apparatus that screws into the end of that Brake.
After retightening brake to the barrel when screwing in the apparatus, should the apparatus be snug against the end of the barrel ?
Or should I leave some space between end of barrel and inside of the screw in ?

RWS Model 40

Here is a picture of the part that screws in.
The exit hole in it is far bigger than the .17 cal pellet.

Do any you have an opinion on whether the slide on Brake should contact the muzzle of the barrel?
Google isn't doing it for me on this one.
Talking accuracy on this issue ?

Slide the thing back till it hits the stop, then tighten it down. You can use some blue thread lock to help keeping it in place.

I will try that.
The muzzle on the barrel is the stopping point.

Thx

This is mostly for looks but I believe there is supposed to be a rubber or plastic o ring that will hold it snug.

I just can't find any info on this.
This model was only made for few years.
Came with scope only, no iron sights.
2 stage trigger assy. ( realized I had something to learn ) with those.
Fairly accurate for no mods or tuning yet.
3 shots inside a dime at 15 yrds or so.
I know nothing about air rifles, ( it's a break barrel ) so soaking up all I can read.

Quickly becoming my yard / pest control device.
Has the capability to be a dispatch tool , but a little bulky I'm thinking.
Thx for any help.

If the hole is larger than the pellet, it should not make a difference where it is at, as far as accuracy goes.

Yes the hole is larger than the pellet.

I'm wondering about air turbulence on the pellet affecting accuracy, if it is extended beyond the end of barrel to create an air chamber ( or void ) ?
Or maybe an air chamber / void is desired for accuracy ? recoil ? or noise ?
I know the Europeans sure get fussy with the air rifle accuracy thing it appears.

Just cant find much explaining the science behind it / or adjustments to correct.

I know enough about manufacturing and production to know that engineers didn't spend untold amounts of cash for design , tooling , manpower and production of this device just for cosmetic looks.
It must have a function ( or perceived function).
The bean counters up front wouldn't let them add the cost.

Or am I over thinking the whole thing ?

I would guess it is supposed to reduce noise. A suppresser is made the same way with multiple baffles that the bullet never touches. Shot it with it out and see if it changes anything. I can not see it making a difference where it is. It may all be for looks too. Europeans are big into suppressors. If you look at a number of break barrels guns and their discerption, one thing often talked about is how load they are.

You probably nailed it .
Not much good being said about them on other models.

Thx for the input

"Them" meaning the gizmo on the end of the barrel or RWS Diana? I had a Diana air rifle as a kid and it shot well.
