I bought a Henry lever 22 years ago brand new. Had it long enough to get a box of shells through it and traded it off. I'll never spend money on another Henry. I'm glad guys who love them have good luck
Remington nylon 66, TC 2000 or the stainless version Silver Linx. Remington for knock around, TC for headshots on grouse, and rabbit. Our pine squirrels aren’t fit to eat. The TC is the most accurate simi auto I’ve ever shot. Five you can cover with a quarter @ 50yrd with just about any ammo and almost a nickel with the stuff it likes. And that’s with a cheap scope with thick crosshairs. The Remington is just about indestructible and very light.
As far as trapping the wrangler all day. As far as ultimate .22 rifle my marlin model 60 with a dove tail to picatiny converter and a red dot. It raises the sight up makes it nice for coming up quick. It holds 18 rounds of a coon or man doesn’t go down with 18 rounds of 40 grain round nose to the head we all dead!
I have one of those little guns, bought 21 years ago when I was 18, first gun I ever bought. Shot lots of rabbits with it back then and now it stays in my truck and I use it when checking traps. I wouldn't buy one these days though, they cost too much, mine was 150 bucks.
any time you say Ultimate I have to ask . For what?
if you say trapping some traits I would be looking for in a trap line gun
light short easy to clean made from an easy to clean minimal maintenance materials durable gets dirty/dusty and keeps on working easy to load and unload while getting in and out of the truck (have to unload long guns in WI for road transport) not to expensive
a bolt action stainless steel with a fairly light barrel profile might fit that bill well a 10/22 might fit that well
for a rifle I picked up a 100 dollar used Marlin bolt action years ago it has a peep sight loads from 7 round mags I have a few and they are thin and easy to put in a shirt pocket it isn't the easiest to clean but it isn't hard at all to break down and get dry and oiled , run a bore snake if I run it with CCI quiets almost no noise. the mag doesn't come out easily if the bolt isn't open so I have never had the mag fall out I had started with my 10/22 as it was my only 22 rifle at the time. it actually worked well also it was a gift from my wife and had the nice walnut stock so I also didn't want it beat up.
if I am not going to have squirrel or rabbit of chance then a 22 revolver is easier yet to carry the Wrangler although I have't had it out trapping yet is light , short , easy to clean , cerocoated , not to expensive and I don't have to unload it. my old revolver wasn't as light or as short but in a holster with hands free to do other things is might handy.
down sides are less effective range and louder
I like lever guns and I know they have been used in every weather on earth , but to me they are fair weather guns , so much to take apart and clean and places to get into when your out in an all day rain.
Cricket or Rough Rider, I carry enough without adding to the burden. When I'm tapping I'm trapping when I'm hunting I'm hunting. Hunting I use my 10/22 but as of late I like the quiet accuracy of my Marlin mod 25, the 710/1040 fps segmented CCI are my new squirrel pill.
I tote a Remington 597 that is as accurate as I can hold it! Really good gun, have had it over 20 years now. Shoots the CCI Standard velocity hole for hole.
I wish sombody would make a stainless version of the old stevens trapper pistol . A stainless hinge action 22 with a decent barrel and not bulky like a TC contender would be the ulfimate trapline pistol

Despite the arsenal of 22s we have around the house between my boys and I, I'm happy to have my old single shot cooey along for dispatch or the odd small game. It was my first that my folks got for me for Christmas and holds a lot of nostalgia.
Well i'd prefer an Ansheutz or Browning Grade IV with a Ziess 4X16 scope for 75 yard headshots on grouse and squirrels and occasional trapped coon But since i don't have either i'll stick to my single shot bolt Wish i could tell you how fantastic it shoots but dont recall sighting it in still can pick up a used marlin or savage with the pull knob striker for 100.00 bucks
