A well fed one.
Pictures just don't do them or copperheads full justice on the subtleties of their colors.

Only one I have ever seen here was on a gravel road saw it last second while I was on my four wheeler. When I looked back it was hauling tail into a corn field with its head up off the ground about 6-10inches pretty wild. I have never seen a snake move like that. I'm not sure if I hit it or not. I sure wish I would have seen it in time to stop so I could have studied it a bit more. They are a rare sight around here.

Usta' call them canebreaks. With the cream colored line down its back and the dark rings around the body do not completely meet at the backline. Northern timbers do not have the cream line down its back and body rings almost always meet at the backline. Only picture I have handy is a roadkill I saw when turtle trapping by Rockaway river on Berkshire Valley Road in NJ.

...canebrakes are spotty here in East Texas... I’ve been looking for a 4ft + one my whole life to skin and shellac to a cedar board ... no luck yet.. but they delisted them here recently... so even a game warden can’t give me problems when I do find one now Lol
