Ram Power Snares for beaver

Does anyone use them for beaver or have they in the past? I'm thinking about trying some this year and would like to hear about likes, dislikes, tips or tricks. Thanks!

I didn't know that. There's not much info out there on snaring beaver with Ram Power snares. It looks like it would be a good system for open water snaring. And if Andy uses it, I feel more confident in giving it a try. Thanks, Taximan!

I love them for beaver. Beaver season herenopens before coyote, and keeps going after coyote closes. Why spend extra money on 330's when a Ram will do the job.

Anchor the Ram, lay it on the ground and use a heavy guage wire as a snare support to hold the snare loop where you want it.

Beaver are slow moving, so make sure the snare loop is not too large otherwise they get their front legs through and you catch them under the arm pits

It wouldn't be legal here In WI. But I can see where It would be the way to go for snaring beaver.

Zip tie that ram arm to a stick and drive It In position and you would be good to go.

Love rams on beaver. I do use a heavy lock that drops fast but get away with 1/16 th cable. Type of lock don't matter but get pretty good neck catches with a 8-9 inch loop

The size of the loop is IMO the most important aspect. Beaver caught under the armpits get testy unless they make it into the water and drown.

Ed, Beav, and Andy, thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to give them a whirl this spring. I'm leaning toward 5/64th, 1x19 cable with a regular lock - haven't decided on which lock yet. I know smaller dia. cable is recommended, but is there any reason to worry about 5/64th cable on these?

I use the smaller wire and no locks with the RAMs. The RAM is your lock. As long as the animal does not get the snare cable tangled on something before the RAM fires, you won’t have an issue. I have only had a beaver do that once and believe it or not, I caught him again that same night 10 miles down stream in a foothold attached to a drowner. He was still wearing the necklace. 😀

I've been so ingrained with traditional locks that trusting in a system that eliminates them altogether is a bit unnerving. But you're right, there's no sense in trusting one side of the equation while not the other. I want to be able to build my own snares, so I need to study that design and make sure what I produce works.

Once the stop on the snare pops, that ram pops so fast that it’s game over. Watch your hands and your face when setting them. They can do some damage if they go off by mistake
