I use the smaller wire and no locks with the RAMs. The RAM is your lock. As long as the animal does not get the snare cable tangled on something before the RAM fires, you won’t have an issue. I have only had a beaver do that once and believe it or not, I caught him again that same night 10 miles down stream in a foothold attached to a drowner. He was still wearing the necklace. 😀
I've been so ingrained with traditional locks that trusting in a system that eliminates them altogether is a bit unnerving. But you're right, there's no sense in trusting one side of the equation while not the other. I want to be able to build my own snares, so I need to study that design and make sure what I produce works.
