That was before work in the morning behind my place when I lived in the foremans section house.
Had a skunk living under the toolhouse,so took him out and made use of him.
Here is another one-nuisance beaver skinned after work at the toolhouse.
Was staying at the bunkhouse in those years in remote locations and trapped after work.
Had been a while since I got to town for a haircut, lol.

Thanks Jim, I really enjoy seeing what others are trapping. I grew up in NE Nebraska and did some water trapping in my youth but dont have that possibility where I live now. So seeing all these guys and gals in waders makes me smile. Plus the fox, cats, black yotes, are all awesome as well. Something has to tide me over till I can set my traps and this is just the ticket. Keep em coming please.

Finally a day in Nebraska where coyotes outnumbered coon. Had to take a shot.
The day my wife wasn't really impressed. It was spitting a bit when I took fur in so I may have borrowed her Jeep without her knowing why. The back seat was piled with carcass badger, fox, and cats.
End of a fun run of a vacation.
A few years back. Only year I've made it entirely through my vacation without rain, snow, or sleet. I'd like to duplicate that vacation again.

Lucky to find this one. Wacked just good enough to not make it too far!

My first wolf!
And the end of the line with my wife. She is awesome!

Re: Post some fur!!! - 10/19/20 12:25 AM
First one this year. Only allowed 1 cat in our 10 day season. Always cool to see in a trap and fun to release.
After I got the trap off his toes he just lay there a few minutes. I took my release tote and other equipment back to the Jeep an he was still there. I drove to the turn around and back he was still resting. He left when I pulled up a few fett away and ho med my horn.
By the way, same set and same Duke 550 pro series as the fox from first check Friday.

Set a few muskrat traps with my daughter yesterday. I was surprised to get anything since we got about 8 inches of snow and high winds when we were setting. She was a trooper these are her first catches ever. She was excited. We went out after dinner and skinned them. She needs practice with the knife but was right in there peeling em.

Another in a Duke 550 pro. I guess other than having to straighten levers they are doing well. Also these are the traps from my paint experiment. Obviously the coyotes are not all bothered by the paint smell. The smell is minimal now but still smells like fresh paint.

Daughter and I pulled all traps today because deer opener is tomorrow. One otter is all we had. I have taken 2 adults and 4 juvenile beaver off the big house. Betting there are a few left. Gonna clean them out before county does because they are flooding an orv trail. Don't understand why idiots on motorized machines are more important than nature but that is how it works in a tourist area.

Had to release the fisher and bobcat, which were both taken in the same set. I can see my house from that set location. I've never even seen bobcat sign here before.
I was thinking you just had a trap line bobcat instead of a dog looking at the pick of him in your pack
I was ready to crown you king of the trapper

Yeah, that would be cool. V.E. Lynch used to have "pet" bobcats on chains, but I don't think they ever got tame. He climbed into the basket only after being released, of course!

There you go Red posting those ugly Montana coyotes I don’t think that one is worth more than $25 it’s too transparent they need to be dark and course so people can see the contrast lol.

Been busy with life here. Haven't had time to readjust where I have snares set out since we got an inch or so of snow so things have slown down. Hard to pass by fresh tracks on a trail and not hang a snare but just haven't had the time to stop. The snow tells me there are a few that know how to spot a snare too.

Re: Post some fur!!! - 01/31/21 11:36 PM
Late 90’s. Lots of fur around that year.Self timer camera. All on foot out of a tent I was in good shape after all that. Those beavers were more work than all of the rest combined. Lynx all within a 2 mile radius of camp. 14’x16’ tent on a frame w wood floor and a 10’x12’ set up inside of it quite comfortable but dark.

coyotes I leave about 2" of the legs and tuck them inside on the fox sometime's I will leave 5-6" of the legs and not tuck in other times I tuck in 2-3" inside depends on what I'm feeling that day.

Re: Post some fur!!! - 04/09/21 03:32 AM
The 2 legged coyote was caught on a farm where there is some alfalfa grown so I am assuming it was some kind of sickle bar that got him as a pup. Nice big male that probably lived off of mice and small gophers etc. Doubt if he could catch a fawn or rabbit. Have caught 2 legged coons the same and some with two legs missing from 1 side but this is the first coyote with 2 legs that I have caught in 50 yrs. of hunting and trapping them................. the mike

Re: Post some fur!!! - 04/27/21 03:36 PM
Just a few pics from my short season this year, boys had an absolute blast and the older one even ran a couple sets of his own. I drilled the dirtholes and pounded in the super stakes, but he picked the locations and did all the rest. He caught 3 coyotes, 1 cat and about 10 coons. Super proud of him, I had told him he couldn’t run his own coyote line till he was big enough to set his own coyote traps. He practiced bedding traps and making sets all summer in the garden, and his hard work and determination paid off. I could hardly believe it when he showed me that he could set a Bridger 1.75 all by himself. But he’s a husky lad and powerfully built. Definitely pinched his fingers a couple times but never gave up. He even did pretty good at the trappers convention setting traps and competing against much bigger kids.

I spent a lot of time in that country 20 years ago or so, probably haven't been there in close to 15 years. There used to be a dude ranch back in that country, and I would stop off and talk to the caretaker. He had a dog (border collie, I think) that ALWAYS smelled like skunk. He told me one day that the dog had killed over 50 civets that year.

Re: Post some fur!!! - 03/18/22 02:57 AM
No there are not. Couple of Oregon cats in there, in Oregon you have to choose Eastern or Western for bobcats when you buy your license, no limit if you choose Western but 5 cat limit if you choose Eastern. The rest of them are Idaho, first time in a lot of years I don't have at least one or two Wyoming cats in the bunch, which usually helps the average.

Re: Post some fur!!! - 03/18/22 03:08 AM
Bearcat2,
Would you share your clean up process, what's in the bag and bottle?
Sorry, missed this earlier. Cornmeal and denatured alcohol. I have been rinsing my cats after fleshing the last couple years, just using water, no soap. Furbuyers are claiming not to wash cats anymore. But rinsing them gets the blood and any dirt out without soap taking any of the natural oils out of the fur (I find it hard to believe soap will take out oils the acid bath for tanning doesn't, but once a furbuyer proved to me he could pick out my unwashed cats from my washed ones I quit washing). After they are all dried I spritz them with alcohol, mainly around the hind legs and any grease spots, like anyplace you had to sew a hole, and rub them down with cornmeal. Repeat on any spots that still have grease or aren't perfectly fluffy. Denatured alcohol also works great to get pitch spots out of the fur. I occasionally use a bit of borax on a blood or stain spot I missed rinsing, some years, others I don't, cornmeal and alcohol will get it all out, but sometimes I think borax removes stains easier.
Posted By: bearcat2
Re: Post some fur!!! - 03/18/22 03:10 AM
I used rubbing alcohol one year when I ran out of denatured alcohol, seems to work just as good, but takes a bit longer to evaporate.

I'm sure someone will correct me on this, but the western states I know of with a limit are Montana, Utah, and Eastern Oregon. Other than that I think all the western states are unlimited, just limited by length of season.

I just have to say it again Boco, that is one beautiful wolf hide you have there. I live a couple hundred miles south, but if I was in the same country,I would be knocking on your door to try to work out a deal on that wolf !
Posted By: Boco
Re: Post some fur!!! - 04/03/22 04:39 PM
Thanks Garart.
Black wolves have been few and far between on my trapline for the last 15 years or so.
Before that I would get one or two a year mostly from a northern pack that used part of my trapline.
Maybe they are making a comeback.
About 10 years ago I got a real nice milk chocolate colored wolf, never seen one like that before or since.
Since we had a lice infestation about 8 or 9 years ago almost all the wolves now seem to be red tawneys,(a poor colour).or light tawneys,(a much nicer colour).
Still the odd clear grey, blond and white around, with whites being as scarce as the blacks.
Good looking fur Boco ,and tanned beaver I take it you tan your own right.
