Views from around our home Out on the Mira River.

Mostly from this deck.

Guess what Season this is. My Son-in-law Daughter & neighbors kids know. wink

Spring has no leaves but lots of promise.

A video compilation of Marion Bridge & the Mira River here on Cape Breton. The Mira is a tidal river which empties into the Northern Atlantic in Mira Bay..

Salmon , Trout, Striped sea bass, perch, white fish, hake, small catfish, smelts , shad, gaspeaux and eels. Lots and lots of eels. Tidal River for about twenty- twenty five miles with mix of salt & fresh water getting stronger or weaker as rains flood river or as Ocean tides pump up more water. Traps have to be set with that in mind as a trap set in water in the day might be high and dry all night or vice versa..

Side note : My Ancestors settled here in 1800 when they immigrated here from Scotland. Actually they were caught up in the Highland clearances and were booted out of Scotland so the sheep could have the land. They had a tough go surviving the first years but thrived once they got themselves established. I see no reason that I would leave this place and intend to be buried in our Family Graveyard beside my ancestors right beside the Mira River. The last hymn at my funeral will be "Shall We gather at the River." Man gotta plan for his future. grin "Amazing Grace," will be the first Hymn because I know it was His Grace that saved a wretch like me because I gotta own up to the mistakes of my past to. wink

the pic with the mist on the water in the fall reminds me of salmon fishing on the Maragree. The wife gave me the green light so plan on moving back the first chance we get; I didn't think I would but I miss CB and think about it all most every day

Nice crib. Like the rock on outside and the nice back deck. That set up looks like a great place to cook a steak and consume cool beverages.

Funny you noticed that. Starting out in building my home I put those big rocks in front of the house and back filled the whole area inside the rocks and grew a lawn till I could get time and money to put in a deck. A lot of back breaking work which I figured to be less expensive. To bad I didn't know I was going to strip the spider gear in the rear end of my truck hauling those rocks back in 1977. Three big rocks climbing up rather steep hill and the spider gear gave out. Not a fun thing at all although I did manage to limp home in a wounded truck. Memories come flooding back about all the hard work I went through to build my first earthen deck. Good thing was, I never had to worry about my deck rotting though..

Set my first conibear right below my house where that little brook runs into the River and another one in a crevice between two roots running under the bank and into the river in 1966 during a wet rainy snow storm day. Being young I checked them again in that evening. I had an otter in each trap. Hard to believe but still a true story. I skinned out the otter and put them into a crevice that was snowed in a bit across from the house when the weather turned colder. I got two mink in two days at that set. The poor things must have been starving to tackle otter eating to survive. However I have always found otter to be strongly attracted to mink carcasses. They go at them like lions, when they try to chase leopards out of an area.

Summer on the Mira has special social gatherings to. Great time to check out the sights. Most of the islands have eagle nests and osprey are everywhere. Partying boat folk are also everywhere as they vacation "out on the Mira."

My wife loves this boat and the pleasure it brings to her Vacation, relaxation time.
