Added 1 oz. to 10 lbs of parrafin, 'cause the Leggetts said to, and a few thousand K-9's(for them), didn't object.

What Coop said and also the reason is that the rosin makes the paraffin a little harder...nothing at all to do with the smell of the rosin...When in dire need you can use the rosin you get from any music store that comes in little bricks.....

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Yup...natural pine tree sap, the dried hard stuff, not the runny stuff. Improves the wax.

Is rosin just for Paraffan? Or can it be used with pure wax?

Pure wax IS parafin.

I get my wax already made up with rosin in it. I have a box plant less than three miles from the house and I have a uncle and lots of buddies that work there. They bring me 5 gal buckets of overrun wax with rosin already mixed in. The parafin/rosin that they use in these boxes sticks to the trap much better than any thing I have found. The rosin dose not make the wax harder, but rather more plyable. Instead of snapping the trap and watching excess wax fly, I have caught up to three times in a trap before it need rewaxing. I also have a 5 gal bucket of pure rosin. They mix it in at the plant, so I can make my own recipe.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote!

It is true, rosin adds durability to parafin wax allowing the wax to hold better and to make the wax less brittle. Pure parafin, one not being a blended wax wont hold long on steel traps when fired. It will chip off more quickly.

Some trap waxes available today are blended waxes with different melting points and have varying durability factors. Some trap waxes are just parafin and can be very brittle.
