Pesky, what's the name of those traps. I've seen them on the net but know very little about them. Fill us in, please.

I"ll look it up after we get done duck hunting . There not cheap . There like 70 bucks each plus 20 bucks shipping but if you buy 500 there 35 bucks . I would like to look inside one to see the trigger and make a few . Come winter time your better to just make kill sets because the squirrels don't last long . Trap looks like it could handle snow storms

Even down here without snow and ice an hour in a cold rain will kill a squirrel.

I fear a non target coon...if set outside. What is the risk with this model?

Thanks Joe, we can't talk about methods of asphyxiation, but pictures of strangled squirrels seems to be okay, despite the fact that prospective customers, PETA, and the HSUS have access!

A couple of things wrong with both, the snares and those traps. Neither, as is shone here, would be legal to use in this state.

The snares? Well, as I stated earlier, beaver are the only critters we can legally set snares for here. BUT YET, we can use a Collarum trap for coyotes. What is a Collarum trap if not just a snare on a sling shot?

Those traps, as cool as they look, we could only set them on a flat surface. Mount one on a wall, like in the photo, and if we have a catch, we get written up. We can set no trap in such a manner as to suspend the animal after it's caught.

I can not use that set up here in jersey with snares. nor do condone it. I would have a news crew there in no time. if I do snare a squirrel it will be able to get on the ground and out of sight. on a house they will chew the heck out of it. and out in the open life expectancy on a live one is not good. every tool has a place but consideration of the tool must be well thought out for that area.

Snaring has been outlawed all over the country because it works to good . Snaring has never been consider in human . it would be consider more human than a unprescribed death from poison . This articile and pictures come from the archives . I just reposted it the best I could . I wish I could clam it but I can't . This articile is easy to find just google search squirrel snare . Must be the most amazing artical ever writen about squirrel catching by the hundreds thousands .millions . I had no idea .Snaring squirrel is also used to survive if lost in the woods . Snares are a great tool for ADC work I use them for beaver and coyote but looking to expand into ground hogs and skunks . Might try it on some Norway rats . Snares could be used for deer control in areas where they can't be shot . I haven't seen anybudy using them on deer yet but it would work if a permit was granted . Wild hog control would be a lost cause without snares .

Muddawg I would contact your DNR or department of agg and explane the problems with squirrels eating up people's pecan crop and maybee they would hand you a special permit for control only . I would explane that shooting could cause possable lead poisoning in the nuts and this pecan farm has damage .

the snare is the only tool I can use for land trapping besides cages. we lost the foot hold in 94 and have used them in fur and adc since then. and I have caught many critters in them. But just like every trap we must think on the use and if it is the best tool for that spot. I am one of the senor trapping and snaring instructors for the state, and I always preach, keep the critters out of sight when in a snare. I have nothing against the snare I love them and nothing against the killers, wish I could use them, but as a professional, we MUST always think of the public in our jobs, if a state allows snaring squirrels and you are out in the back forty then those pics would be ok for me, but when you are in a yard with people looking, those methods pictured in my state would be suicide to a professional image and business. If your customers have no problem with those squirrels hanging then have at it. but my snares have to be non lethal as they can be.
