to better answer your question yes you can but you will lose alot alot of broken traps and pullouts something like them new montannas could probally hold them consistently but for that price you could buy yote traps

As far as Brand, It really makes no difference as long as you set them up right. But I would not go with anything smaller than a 1.75 for yotes. You will catch a few yotes in 1.5's and you will hold a few, but it is definately NOT the trap of choice. I suppose if you really worked them over you could, but why bother when there are correct tools out there to use.

Coontrapper, the kind of traps you use for coyotes depends on which state you live in, and your regulations. Some states require offsets, some have trap size limitations, etc. Before buying any traps, make sure you read your regulations backwards and forwards, and anything in those regulations you don't understand, post a question on here and we'll try to help you out.

Yes...but not consistently if they are stock traps. I do it all the time..but my traps are 1.5s only by name...LOL. Outside laminated, baseplated, center swivelled,#3 American chain, MB HD swivels, #2 music wire springs, jaw tips bubbled. They started out as Duke 1.5s ...but the mods cost more than the traps. They work well! Seriously, pick at least a #2 and a #3 is even better. If you do all the same stuff to a #3 Duke OS and 4 coil it, you have a real nice yote trap. Here's some of those. Or...just buy a ready made MB 650 O/I laminated and get the best without having to do anything.

Ive never lost a coyote in a 1.5. I caught coyotes that weighed around 45lbs, No Damage. The most i dislike about them for coyotes is that I have rarely been able to get a full pad catch, I mean the trap is just not big enough to get a pad catch. The way I look at it is as once those levers lock the jaws weak or not, that coyote isn't going anywhere(unless). The next part is how much of a foot catch do you have, what condition is the trap in. Swivels, double staked???? Or single??? 4 coiled??? How old is the chain??

I used some of the new Montana 1 1/2's and the coyotes tored the crap out of them, missing dogs and pans, you name it. But the Coyote was in the trap when I got there.
