Victor#0 headed up today to see if we can have are meeting. Normally don’t have grizzlies on bait til first week of June after seasons closed so rare opportunity to get one . I have ran 2 baits in my area for last 6 years and twice now I have found 2 small black bears kill what looks like by grizzly within 200 yards of my bait station. I think some of these bigger ones are coming in and chasing down the little ones and eating them. I think we going to start doing are own predator control up there . We just going to start taking every bear that is big enough to eat a calf. I no bear numbers will go down but I would like to see moose numbers go up.

I remember a few years back a few guys over in Central ( I'm sure you can guess who ) bragged about killing 100 bears over the spring, summer, And fall. Didn't seem to even put a dent in them! We hunt them for the meat so we shoot any size and we take quite a few off our barrel and every year there are just as many. I think they are like red squirrels no matter how many you kill more show up.

My goal is to try and take some griz out of my area pretty sure there the hardest on the moose calves. We took 19 wolves this winter and if we can take at least two griz out a year it will hopefully do something. Next year griz open long so going to try to put the smack down on some more . My trap line is 118 miles long and did not see one moose last winter. The area is prime habitat but they are just not there . It is a shot in the dark but it is fun trying. We eat a ton of bear also give a bunch away to the local folk . I already got ask if I would take one for may neighbor up there he said it is the only red meat he gets all year .

Yes sir get er done, seeing moose around here is like a squatch sighting! For some reason though we get hordes of moose hunters every year lol. To bad we don't get hordes of bear hunters frown

Where do you sell your raw fur or do you tan it and then sell it?

Sell them both ways . Most the time I have people just contact me and stop by and pick the ones out they want . Or put them in auctions.

Thanks, the only reason I asked was because you said you were getting ready to send some off and the fur auctions are done for the season.Just wondering what everyone does with thier fur to market it in Alaska.

I know I will get grief over it but building a new trapping sled this year. Sometimes you just have to do it a little different. I used a m6 for years and loved it then went to a 550 lxt and love the ride but no power . So going to build what I want . I am ordering a tunnel cooler tall wind shield and ice scratchers and a new aluminum box for the back along with building a reinforced tunnel and hitch . [Linked Image]

lots of power for the deep powder there. Get the rear wheel kit. It will give you the outer wheels and a longer cross member. A couple extra idlers along the rail also helps a lot.

Mountain sleds do ride nice and handle very well. Main thing is the tunnels are flimsy and crack just carrying a fuel caddy so make sure you reinforce it well for your box.
