How do you trap beaver in standing water when it's frozen over. No holes to be found. Pics or tips of any kind would be greatly appreciated.

So coontrapper2016, your saying you chop a hole and hang it down. I have the same thing, bank dens.

Put that bodygrip on the bottom of the run. If you want, run both springs to one side and put a verticle stick through them running a wire from the bottom spring through the other to the top of the stick, so you can adjust things after pushing the stick in the mud. Run another stick through the outside top corner of the trap between the jaws, just catching it to hold the trap steady. Trap is in the run, looking like there is blocking on both sides. Tie it off good .

Tie it off good . Trapper03, les describes exactly what I meant. Only I'm dumb and didn't think to pull both springs to one side and run a stick through them. That'll make it a lot easier for deep hard to reach runs. I have beavers to catch on my uncle's property that have runs dug down a foot+ from the normal mud level. It's like walking on concrete they're packed so tight, I'll definitely use that trick when I go back over there.

I do what Boco does too, or the springs both to one side. I have a pile of tamarack saplings like Bocos I'll use just like that. The single pole is quicker to set up, IMO .

if you are able to use snares you can take a green pole and peel some of the bark open not off and have it about 3" dia. and then after you have your hole chop ,put the pole in and see where the bottom is on the pole and where it is under the ice and then run a long cable and set 2 snares at the bottom of the pole that the loops are on each side of the pole and just have the snare one one side with just enough of the snare to cover the pole but the rest stick out on the side and the other side the same and then go 90 degrees of the bottom snares and do the same and tie the end of the snares to the cable you have run from the bottom of the pole to above the ice to tie it off to a cross dead pole and use what way you thing will work for you for snare surport ,I use 11ga wire to the pole. What the beaver will do it swim the side of the pole to eat the bark and will swim into the snare. I use about a 10" loop.

Listen to those northern trappers on under ice. The water here very rarely gets hard enough to walk on so I just wait for the warm up. This weekend in the 60's so beaver traps will be up and running.

If a person can't find their run, but knows beaver are in the area, what about baiting a 330 with something like an apple and putting it under the ice?
