Hi All,
I have set all the traps I have which "should be used" about 24 of them and have now found
one more place I want to set up. Problem is all I have is 1-3/4 or #5 Bridger wolf traps with an offset.

I can (4) coil the 1-3/4 as I have the kits, or use the (4) #5 Bridgers???
I can also double set the 1-3/4.

New to cats so thought I wold ask the best forum around.

Any thoughts??

I think the 1.75s are the same size as a MB550 and those are pretty good traps. No idea on the 4 coil.

the 1.75 will hold a cat with good springs with no problem

I would use the 1.75 and double them up

THanks, its what I was thinking also. Hate to see the #5 on a cat leg. Thought the offset might help enough.

Can you use a snares? 1.75 will do, but there are guys using CDRs on cats also.
Either be just fine unless you are going to release them.

I use #2 or 1 3/4 Dukes for fisher and over the past have caught cats in those sets. Never had a problem holding or good pad catches

1 3/4 Is all u need for bobcat and coyote from PA to NM. Have caught and held both nicely in MB450's also which is a little smaller.

My first bobcat, a big tom, was held by one toe in a #2 Duke offset. A cat's foot is big in proportion to the cat's body. But they aren't THAT big.

And bobcats just don't fight a trap as hard as a canine.

Shouldn't be any problems using a 1.75 size trap. If you can spare an extra trap, double up if it gives you more confidence.

Yup 1 3/4 will hold them. I've caught skunks-yotes in that size.
If the place you found is public land use the dukes. The theft won't hurt so bad

Thanks much. Will get those ready tonight. Checked some today and had nothing on a travel route I saw tracks
on 10 days ago and just waiting it out. Found new tracks today about a mile away on a creek bottom heading my way.
Can only hope!

Another zone I had tracks on and those traps have sat for 2 weeks and I know he is around somewhere.

Here where I am in Idaho has great cats, but seem to be far and few between. Probably just me though!

Ted

Good question. I would guess maybe 1 to 2 per 10 square miles based on the sign I see. Probably more
just know the locations are good, country is good, I get out a lot and have yet to connect in four weeks.
Very high desert (7500') with canyons of rock and fir / pine.
Near my Marten lines (no problem there!), but lower near the floor.
