Having been around both most of my life, i would have to say the cougar if i had to pick one. Chances are its focused on something else and isn't even aware of you. and it' way easier to look bigger than a cat than a grizzly. A grizzly dont like to be spooked and will stand it's ground and if it does shag off, be pretty sure yer gonna get stalked till ya get where yer going. I wont give a black bear the time of day(and yes i know there are more black bear attacks).

I'd probably rather run into the cat. It would most likely be that I would smell like something the bear would like to eat; possibly trapping bait, fish or something I had worked on recently like a deer, moose, caribou, etc..
A cat wouldn't be nearly as interested in those food smells, plus the cat is several times smaller than any bear I'd be likely to encounter.

AS far as behavior, probabaly the cat. But I I knew one was going to attack me It is about sixes. I think there might be a better chance the grizz would just buzz off after a bit of tossing me around

I'd poop myself. Hope they don't like the smell and they would leave me alone.

I've had unwanted encounters with both and either can be a deadly equal threat. When such an incident occurs just act calm and collected. Don't shout, holler or run. Just make yourself look as big as possible, talk to either in a low calm voice and slowly move off out of their way. Then return to camp and clean your underwear.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

The cat in the picture looks to be a male, 140 lbs(ish). Hard to tell from a single photo. But as far as cats go, sub adult that have just been kicked off and are hungry are the spookiest, daddy cats hunt them lil guys and keep 'em hungry. Were i am from the damned wolves will chase a cat off it's kill before it can even get the liver out. The cats are evolving though. More and more critters seem to be gettin drug up trees than being eatn on the ground. In the dark, they are all double spooky.

I had VERY CLOSE encounter with a brown bear (grizzly) once, it was walking along the side of a building and I was walking along the side of the same building. We were on a collision course, we were both headed towards the same corner of the building. We both met at the corner at the same time, we both noticed each other at a distance of about three feet.
I don't know which one of us was more startled. The bear turned and ran at lightning speed.

I use to guide in the Swan Range. Was on a bowhunt w/ a guy from Milwaukee. We got dropped off on one side of the mountain and it was two days across, calling for elk on the way to the main camp. This was an awesome hunt more often than not. We made camp on a ridge that was covered in berries. the idea was to roll out of the tent and be just to side of were these elk had fed over the top that evening. We were in a 3 man tent, I took the clients bear spray away from him and put it on my side(the guy was VERY nervous). That night we woke up to "twang....twang.....twang...." I finally got the nerve to micro-slowly unzip the window flap. There was a cub just outside the tent, settin on it's butt, plucking the tent fly. The mother was about 35' away strippin huckleberries from a patch. That guy was shaking so hard i thought for sure things were gonna go south. Eventually the mother gestured with her head and made a noise i will never forget. the cub jumped up and they went just out of site and feed slowly down the mountain. The moon was out and things showed up pretty good, especially the look on that guys face. The next day he tripped me up more than once, like a kid playing "ankle sweep" in the senior hall. Two days later he shot a rag bull and asked to be taken to the lodge for the rest of his time till he had to fly back east.
