You would think so. However, I think that at times my "fight or flight" response might be out of whack. I've had crewmen make that claim before. I was surprised and amused, but I don't think my heart rate increased much.

I guess you had better luck than I did. Hunting the Alaska Peninsula right on the ocean for brown bear. Came around a bend on the beach and this came sidestepping out of the cave you see behind us. What you can't see is the saltwater just in front of the bear. I would say the distance was five to seven yards at the initial encounter before I started backing up. Neither of us had much of an option for retreat so it became a momentary standoff. Everyone thinks they know how they will react in a situation like that. The very first thought that entered my head was to throw my gun at it and run. Seriously.



Never been exposed to big cats so can't say much about that.
