Anyone use dead mice for bait in a dirt hole or under a rock/log (flat set)? If so, do they work for coyotes, fox, or bobcats?

there is a famous Mice, Mice, and only mice thread on the Strictly Trapping forums that will answer your question with details but in short Yes.

I have used them in dirt holes and caught several reds. Can't speak to them being any better than other bait, but it works.

Mice are also great under jugs for Catfish.

I've had fair luck using ghopers as they are plentiful around here and farmers are happy to get rid of them. I collect a small bounty from the farmer and the county as well as bait for the coming trapping season.

I chopped up and let some mice taint up one year for a week and then preserved them. I can take a lot of bad smells, but that odor is the most horrible thing I have ever smelled. It was a good bait coyote. At least as good as my other baits.

I have used mice. Works about as good as anything. Does anybody chop up a gallon or so of mice and add Dobbins Bait solution? I sure like that solution with chopped up woodchuck.

I guess It must be a trapper thing. Spend 100s of hours trapping and dealing with mice. When you can buy a jar full of bait and get to making sets. LOl

I know I know I've been down that road too.
