By early summer, new recruits will go through Army BCT that's designed to instill strict discipline and esprit de corps by placing a new emphasis in drill and ceremony, inspections, pride in military history while increasing the focus on critical training such as physical fitness, marksmanship, communications and battlefield first aid skills.

And they are just going to start such training. LOL

AS Marines we learn that stuff In the first 2 weeks of boot camp.

So did we in the BCT of the mid-seventies.

Nothing teaches discipline like the two B's.

And grenade qualifications. I don't understand the sentence below:

"What we have found is it is taking far, far too much time. It's taking three to four times as much time ... just to qualify folks on the hand grenade course than we had designated..."

How can it take that long to qualify with a grenade?

"Hold." "Pull pin." "Release."

That pretty much sums up my grenade qualification.

Now that they figured out they need to go back to what used to work I hope they keep going. Separate female and male training.

I wonder if they still do the gas mask drill?

I hope it works. Personally I believe the things they now teach schools is the root of the problem. Telling young boys it's alright to cry and show your feelings. I think it was The Duke who said. Do you know way a man don't express his emotions. BECAUSE ITS NONE OF YOUR DAM BUSINESS. If I would have cried over a skinned knee when I was growing up,my DAD would have gave me something to cry about.
I truly hope it works. The wussafacathion of the military has to stop.

Huge mistake to get rid of land-nav. You would think they learn something from the Jessica Lynch fiasco. Land Nav is important, and it develops confidence and discipline.

They are not doing away with land nav or grenade training. Not completely. When I was in boot,it took all day my group of recruits just to throw 1 grenade each. And if you would take the time to read the whole article you would not be posting false information.
Some of you are as bad as the media. Pick and choose what you want to hear.

Don't need land nav anymore with Google Earth right on their phone. I'm sure there is cell service on that base in Kentucky or Kansas they are wandering around aimlessly on.

My bad, they are not eliminating those programs, just removing passing them as a graduation requirement. So if you suck at either or both, you still graduate.

Lugnut on the grenade training the extra time they didnt figure on was the student holding on to grenade TOO LONG...then its a clean up mess plus all the EXTRA PAPER WORK and trying to explain to parents and Congress why it happened. In the Marine Corp Hold, pull pin , and not release but THROW THE DANG THING AS FAR AS YOU CAN. Drill instructor said if i get hurt your going to get hurt worse if your alive after JUST RELEASING grenade

How can you not pass throwing a grenade test and still graduate? I suppose if you fail at the grenade toss you can still graduate after you get out if hospital if you survive.
