Hello everyone. Hopefully you have had a successful trapping season. I am just looking for tips on trapping Beaver in early season. Before ice. I tried setting s 330 in front of a feeder hole 2 different times and both times the coni was pushed over. Snaring was the same problem on slides coming into the pond. This was public land in Nebraska so snares have to be completely submerged in the water. The water depth to feeder holes in this very small pond were maybe "10 deep. This is what gave me difficulty on setting the traps. Due to low water level.ehat is best for this situation? what method works better in early season? Coni/snare or foothold? Also new to me. I come from trapping beaver in ponds. I now live near fast paced rivers (loup river central Nebraska) and would take advice on trapping beaver in these rivers. Thanks

One Trap at a time.

There's lots of cool videos on YouTube about open water trapping.

Here's a couple of mine for starters.

These guys have some really good ones.

I support everything written so far. However, if I’m setting a run that’s going up the bank, I put a Q-tip amount of Backbreaker just above the water and a couple peeled sticks also either in the water or just above the water. It helps to have the run facing down stream. Beaver always come from the downstream side. Always.

We also set dam cross overs either at the top or bottom. All sets are with 280s or 330s at cross overs, and no lure is used.
