Did anybody ever buy Nick's line of baits and lures?

Never bought any lures or baits, but i did buy "muskrats the trappers meal ticket."

not to derail this thread, but...same question for Mike Stechniki lures?

Nick had a few folks that purchased his formulas and business over the years. I can recall 4.

I was just wondering if anyone was still producing some of his line of baits and lures. I used some of them way back and had good luck with them. Still have some of his catalogs as well as several of his books.

I have some of Mike's lures. Years ago, they were dad's favorites.

Rob Erickson who owns "ON TARGET " also bought Nicks business. I would think he sells most of Nicks formulas.

Mike Stechnicki's Business went to a grandson I believe. But I haven't heard anything for a while from anyone as to continuing the lure business. The boy I think was going to med School if I recall back then so he was quite busy with that at that time.

Mike was a good man with a good product line. He was a big influence on me wanting to get into the business many years ago in the late 60's.

I made and used several a few years ago after buying his books. Good reads. Down to earth guy.

when I first moved into the area and got interested in trapping, someone told me I needed to go meet Mr. Stechnicki. He died not too long after that.

I regret that I never made the time.

I have never heard of Nick's passing, I assume he has. I stopped and visited with him once back years ago when traveling to a nats. He was an old fella then, and I was about 35 or so. Now I'm the old fella!

He was at the Pennsylvania convention last summer.

Nick made a red colored coon bait sold in quart bottles. I believe it was called shellfish bait and it was deadly. But never see it anymore.

Thanks for straightening me out! Gosh, he has got to be getting up there. Wonder how old he is. Hope he lives a long time yet!

He and I've been writing back and forth a few yrs now.

Nick is at least 85 now and doing remarkably well all things considered...I first went to his shop 53 years ago..he has some very good younger friends that look after him!

More than 35 years ago I stopped in his shop and bought a few things. Saw him a few years ago at a trap auction.

I attended a District 7 mini rendezvous last fall and Nick was there, I had a nice long conversation with him, heck of a nice man.

I've spent many hours hunkered around Nick's wood stove in his skinning shop.
The funny thing is we rarely talked trapping.
He's a worldly and highly intelligent man.
He never asked for much help from me, but once in a while I'd run an errand for him like dropping something off at the Post Office.
He's a great guy.

When my Dad was a kid he used to sell fur to Nick, and my Dad told me he thought Nick was an old man back then. LOL
Nick still swears to this day that my Dad caught the biggest mink he's ever had in his shop. He said your Dad came in here really shy and said he wasn't sure what he caught. My Dad started pulling a mink out of his game pouch on the back of his vest and Nick said, "I didn't think it was every going to stop." Huge mink. LOL
