Correct, I like the yellow pans better but, lots of screwing around to get it flat.

I like the Catchmaster Multi-Catch Mouse Trap from Walmart. When the mice population gets high in my barns, I set 34 of the traps and harvest a very large number of mice, usually 160 plus mice a night, at first and sell them as reptile food. Once the numbers drop off, I don't harvest any more mice until the population builds up again. I treat the mice like a crop.

Joe, yes, those are the traps I use. 34 of the traps fills 2 plastic storage bins. I run them like a regular trap line. The traps work ok unbaited, but better with dog food in them. Dog food also seems to keep the cannibalism down. I put the traps against the inside walls, right after dark and pull them right before daylight, so my birds don't mess with them. The traps are cheaply made, but work pretty well. The mice walk up a ramp, that tilts down letting them go in. The ramp then tilts back up. The mice sometimes pack the area under the ramp, with debris, mostly feathers, so no more mice can't enter. I once caught 19 mice in 1 trap, over night.

1 have 5 barns totaling 11,624 square feet, not counting lofts. 2 barns are tight enough cats can't enter. 1 other barn has about half that cats can't enter. There are 4 outside cats, that primarily live off mice. I rarely see a mouse in the areas the cats can get to. When the cats get a mouse, they immediately eat it. They don't play with mice like our house cats do.

I get 30 cents to $1.00 each, per mouse, depending on weight and how many mice are bought. I sell them stretched out, frozen, sorted by weight, in grams.

If I have time tomorrow, I'll put all the traps out and post a tail gate shot of the results.

Joe, I remember that old post from P-Skinny, it was a shame he died so young.

I don't think the traps I use would work well outside, away from a wall. The mice travel along walls and the traps mostly work like a snare by being in the runways. I have fiber board on the walls on some of my barns. The mice mostly live in the space between the studs behind the fiber board. The holes they are currently using are well marked by droppings and oily looking residue on the wood.I just bought a black light flashlight. I should see if I can find the urine trails with it.

Late Spring through early Fall is when I catch the best numbers of mice. During the Winter, I catch large mice, but few smaller ones, so I don't think they breed much during the Winter.

The first week or so of trapping is very productive. After that the numbers I catch rapidly drop. It takes about an hour to bait, put out, pull and empty 34 traps. I stop trapping when I catch less than 12 mice a night.

According to USDA meat inspectors, if it has been frozen it can no longer be marketed as fresh.

What is the cheapest way to ship frozen mice.

If you guys would just live catch them and then pen them up you would never run out of mice.

Then of coarse the mouse bedding would be better as an atractor then the actual mouse.

I have been thinking of that Beav, this is the first year in 10 of living in our house that we have mice, as I catch more furbearers the mice have moved in but in very low numbers. The wife, however, is mad as heck because we used to have cats and I developed an allergy to them so they all went away and she is angrier at me than the mice. If I can raise my own then I will have what I need for trapping etc but that will drive her crazy too lol.

I once had this wild scheme to use live mice at the set. I raised a bunch then placed a live mouse In baby food jar. I had holes punched In the lid for air. I placed some grain and a slice of apple In the jar. The slice of apple gave the mouse some moisture.
I figured that the smell of a mouse and the actual sounds of a live mouse would catch me some fox.
I did catch some fox this way but It was a real pain In the backside so I quit It.

but I still use those smelly mouse nests at my sets. That is when I can find some.

I wonder if a live mouse on a glue trap would have better effect than in a jar? When i worked in ND this hillbilly lived in a dilapidated house in the middle of nowhere. I used to stop in and drink whiskey with him once in awhile. House was infested with mice so he caught one live and glued its butt and pee hole shut and released it. He said the sceamING drove the other mice away. He had some real humdinger ideas.
