Aix silly question why couldn't you use a kids pool float noodle? They come in different boyancys from 1/2" thick all the way up to solid foam, or even the foam pipe insulation! Man you talk about a lite set up you could use a beaver chewing as your anchor attached below water of course. I like that set up it hold curiosty as well as a twist of territorial response. thank you for the picture

I like that. I have used the floating log, but this is a great idea. Thank you !

I will tinker with the float noodles and get back with you. we use them every summer to catch big flatheads with! Surprisingly a 60 lb flat head cant hold a 30" section under for but a minute or less. Ever time being less. Do you feel the swivel points are necessity beings your counting on entanglement. I understand the swivels will help with cable being twisted up and kinking. But 90% of the time the cable end with the snare lock is unusable so if its kinked big woppy! Im just trying to lighten down the package to balance it better. float noodles are dirt cheap in the off season.

ya im grasping the whole concept. I was just thinking a guy could carry a dozen with out a struggle! light, fast, stream lined. I want speed and efficiency. Who knows it might be the next dp of beaver trapping! I wonder what kind of force a swimming beaver can generate? Iknow a big beaver can pull a full grown man into the water if your holding it by the tail!!lol but granted it was muddy! I ask because I was thinking those light weight barrel swivels.LOL I see you already use those

Nice concept. Some weight could be saved running cable thru torp instead of eye bolt w/ crimped loop on one end and the attachment length from the other. Filling the torp with expandable insulation foam from can would keep them from water logging(cheap stuff $2/can). The torp could be made from the black corgtd drain pipe and ends(lighter/cheaper) then. The CPVC elbow lure holders I use for many of my sets could easily be tapped into snare end to hold castor.

Thank you aix. We had a lot of rain middle of February and when it was over I started a new swamp and pond fed by a big creek. Needless to say I was chasing water levels for a few day. Saw your torpedo and this seemed like the perfect fix. I didn’t think about letting the connection point hang below. My torpedoes turned more into pontoons. I ended up taping mt dew bottles on the sides. Fixed the rolling problem, just a lot more bulk now. Going to rig them differently without the bottles and see what happens. Thank you again for sharing this.

Sincerely,
CKJ from Georgia

Sounds as if you already went thru all the heartbreak and hair pulling! To end up with a fast lite efficient system. I like it , guess I will have to make a half dozen and put your idea to work! I see it working swell in spots were the beaver swim around randomly. And are semi spooked from human activety or a boat line on a big river. How well do snares perform in strong current? I always assumed you will find a lot of fired empty snares!

I was wanting to use them on the Mississippi river. It has a strong relatively fast current! My fear was the current firing the snare! Because im sure you want that setup to fire with very little pressure applied. It took me awhile to picture in my head how they fired it! Beings it was semi mobile. My brain screamed hip catchs. But with entanglement and 3"of water it still equals doa beaver

The problem I've had thus far is being the pipe is floating it makes the snare loop not rigid when the beaver swims into it. It just swings to the side and is resulting in fired snare w/o catch. Used sticks to control side to side movement but that limits deep water use.

1/2" rebar in the pipe is definitely
too heavy if you use 9 gauge wire for support.

I might try this on the next set. Make them a little more forgiving.

How are you connecting the snare to the trap swivel?? Are you closing and opening the "J" to change out snares after each catch??
